Before anyone dismisses this fight, Morales was probably 135 lbs for his fights at 126. Let's say he doesn't have to cut that weight and faces Duran at 135 in the era of same day weigh-ins. What transpires?
Duran is definitely the bigger of the two, regardless of same day weigh ins or not. Morales is an inch or two taller, but in his prime like a fucking beanpole. Duran was a very solid 5'7, decent size lightweight for sure. Even taking size out of the equation, it's not a good style match for El Terrible. He'd have his moments through sheer balls and ferocity and very good skill and talent of his own, but ultimately he'd get bashed and stopped.
BTW- even with the same day weigh-in..... Duran probably put on 6-7 pounds by time he entered the ring.
Yep. Obviously there's been a lot of fighters that abuse the day before weigh-in and rehydrate to ridiculous amounts. However lets not pretend on the era of same day the fighters entered the ring at the same weight they were on the scales.
Yes. Big win for Roberto against the former Super-Bantam, after which Roberto is teased mercilessly by his barrio buddies for picking on smaller men. Roberto proves his manhood by beating on an old donkey, with a baseball bat, before the Donkey pulls some shifty moves and forces Roberto to quit in frustration. This story is then fed to the local press who report it as Roberto having stolen Shergar and knocked him out cold with one punch.
Duran would not like it against a guy who stands up to him, can match him for speed and hits hard to his body (as Duran had a habit of getting stomach cramps). However, Duran's clutching and leaning tactics would probably wear the smaller man down late in the fight
