Potentially excellent fight spoiled by the ending.

    This is the thing:

Ortiz and Mayweather did their hug and forgiveness and what not before Cortez deducted the point. People seem to forget this. Ortiz coming back to hug was overkill and it was time to fight again. Mayweather did the right thing, especially considering that this man had butted him moments earlier. Anyone would have done it in those circumstances.

What..should Floyd have waited until Victor was ready to fight again?

No. He was waiting for time from the timekeeper and NEVER said "box". I watched 3 times from every angle they had. The break had not ended, and it was not legal to punch. Simple as that, should be a Floyd DQ. Protect yourself at all times is a good sense measure, but it has shit to do with punching during an official timeout. How this goes down as a Floyd KO win is astounding.

Amir Khan would have enough trouble with a pile of shit like Ortiz, nevermind a real fighter like Mayweather... he should fuck off

Yes, he said "Go" and the fighters touched gloves. Ortiz got lost.

I wouldn't make that comparison. If Ortiz wanted a way out he just found one. He probably would have anyway.

The sad thing is that he's 4 million dollars richer and can milk the controversial ending into another big fight.

Rewind it a little. He said Go before he looked away.

Accidental? Are you kidding me? That is the most deliberate headbutt I've ever seen in boxing!

Ortiz launched himself into Mayweather with his head due to frustration. It was the second time in t e fight he did that actually.

What a shit night of fights, Morales get spoonfed an opponent who should never have been sanctionned to fight him, Canelo gets a pure gift from the ref in the form of very early stoppage, and saving the best for the last, we have this fiasco that reeks of fixed. Shamefull, even a few years ago, I didn't understood how former boxing fans, disgusted by fixed, corruption and incompetence, could have given up on such a wonderfull sport. Now I'm starting to get it.

He could have waited until Ortiz had his hands up and looked like he was aware the action had resumed

honestly, the sporting thing to do and plenty of fighters would have done that

but Floyd is a cunt, so I expect nothing less than the path of least resistance

Did Ortiz have a speed advantage. Also with him being 14lbs heavier was he the bigger stronger man. I'll Holla 5000

Mayweather was cheap for throwing those punches....BUT ref always tell you PROTECT yourself at all time.....I wish that had happen to Shane Mosley who loves to glove fuck with opponents...

Bitch ass Ortiz kissed and hugged Mayweather after the attempted fatality head butt....then got a pt deducted...

Anyway...IMO..Ortiz found the perfect moment to QUIT...without looking like a total BITCH...that shit was another quit job...Berto and Maidana hit him harder than that...and he got up....

Then after all that he doesn' complain...? He still was kissing and hugging Mayweather right before Merchant put up a better fight against Money....than he did.

Ortiz told them to "Go" rewind a little. Ortiz just didn't start fighting or hear it.

in fairness, you didn't see it, man

Floyd was absolutely in the wrong... he wants the world to lick his balls and anyone not willing to unequivocally do so is "not giving me a fair shake"

Couple things I read on other sites...

Cortes takes a point, they touch gloves, Ortiz tries to hug floyd or something, Floyd hits Ortiz, Ortiz looks at Cortes like "what's this?" then Floyd unloads right hand.

One guy said Cortes never said time in or told them to box and wasn't looking at either guy when the punches were thrown. Said Cortes should never work a big fight again.

Same guy said mayweathr told Merchant he should be fired and he'd kick his ass then Merchant tells Floyd "If I were 50 years younger you'd find out if you could."

Unlike most of the commentary here, guy said Ortiz didn't fight that poorly and just before the headbutt he thought Ortiz got Floyd's attention with a few shots. Also, said Floyd didn't look that great. Had success potshotting Ortiz and thought the fight was just getting good.

The consensus appears to be, whether legal or not it was classless and Floyd further embarrassed himself in the interview with Merchant.

    Did someone say "accidental headbutt"?

That might be the funniest thing all night.

Maybe it was me...but Mayweather still look bigger than Ortiz in there. They both took turns stalking/walking each other down.

Lemme ask this. If Floyd thought that the shit was intentional especially if Ortiz had done it before. Maybe he got upset wit the butts and said fuck the glove touch and let his hands go. I'll Holla 5000

He had NO advantage other than being heavier.

We all knew this before tonight though.

SO TRUE... Ortiz is a gutless, spineless bastard

Mayweather's win was cheap and classless, but Ortiz gets no sympathy from me... then fucker was more than happy for it to be over

Cortez said let's Go then put his hands together like he was motioning for them to engage. Ortiz just didn't pay attention and got KTFO by a pissed off Mayweahter.

Exactly, it's ridiculous to defend his actions, especially considering he was the main attraction and cheated the fans of their money by doing it. I could understand if it was in the late rounds and he was losing and getting a little bit desesperate. But he seemed to be on his way to a fairly easy win. ANd I do think Ortiz knew his role, he could have gotten up imo.

The fight was getting good......but for some reason Ortiz just decided to quit....Mayweather timing was horrible tonight.

If he wants to fuck with Pacquiao....He should have one or two fast easy fights..just to get that timing back...

I don't see it. He doesn't say anything to the fighters, and his hand is still in the air, like just before the downward chop you see refs do to signal "box". He never gave the command, lowered his hand to perhaps signal it, and he only ever looked at or talked to the timekeeper. There is no command to box, which us why Ortiz doesn't cover up after sucker punch one. He rightly looks at cortez like wtf while cortez looks at the timekeeper.

I guess the lesson is that if you are going to blatantly foul someone, you better make sure they can't continue because payback is a bitch.

Personally I applaud Floyd for firing those shots. Fuck a bitch that blatantly fouls with the intent of causing damage and then wants to apologize.

I agree to a point, the excessive apologising and hugging was just Ortiz being a bitch etc, BUT if Ortiz really didn't call time in, it should be a Floyd DQ, no ifs or buts.
