At the 154lbs that Floyd fought Oscar, Basilio would beat that child to death. He'd beat Floyd into a bag. Christ...your love for Floyd knows no bounds.

Pretty much, and at least given the people who spent 70 dollars on the PPV or thousands on tickets to get a bit more of their money's worth.

As it happened Sly, the arena booed the shit out of Floyd.

Crap fight, crap ending. The only thing good is if people are unhappy and refuse to pay for shit like this.

Oh, and I dont think Floyd was saying all that shit anticipating a question about Pacquiao.

He'd probably just say some shit like "Pac won't take tests, I will kick his ass", and then insist on a certain type of testing.

Carmen Basilio is white, so therefore he can't win

despite the fact that he fought KID GAVILAN to the fucking BRINK and beat Sugar Ray Robinson at 160, taking the hardest shots Robinson (who hit 50 times harder than Floyd) could deliver

Anyway it's clear that father time is knocking on Floyd's door. His defensive timing was off. He was getting hit with shots he wouldn't have been hit with years ago. He has to fight Manny next or not at all. If the fight doesn't happen before June 2012 Manny will knock him out.

let's not get ridiculous, intentionnal headbutts happens often and I've never seen an instance where a fighter was dq on the first infraction ( unless maybe if the butted fighter can't continue )

I'm out now and on my iPhone so I'll have to keep it succinct

Ortiz fought dirty and got the same back in return. How many times have we seen the exhortation to "give it back" instead of complaining in return? In fact, Floyd's move was legal, Ortiz's wasn't. PRotect yourself at all times!

Either way Ortiz was getting pasted in there. You could see he was happy for the fight to be over.

Fully agree that Duran, Hagler, et al would've done the same thing and been lauded for it.

Dude, you didn't even know anything about boxing... you don't know anything about Basilio or the guys he fought

Basilio would laugh at the right hands of Floyd Mayweather and force a pace that Mayweather has never once shown any inclination of being able to handle at this weight

Arturo Gatti would have DIED against Basilio

Robinson was 210 years old. Floyd would have toyed with Basilio.

Secretariat please......:limp:...fuck out of here..Mayweather will feel pressure to give Ortiz a rematch??

He can handle million of people calling him a bitch and coward for not fighting Pacquiao....for 2-3 years...but he won't be able to handle a few thousand Ortiz fans saying he is a punk and their guy wasn't yet set to fight...???

Like Mayweather said....."Yeah Pacquiao you are NEXT!!!"....don't try to back out of it now Mayweather...shit the next day after saying that he was backing away...nah that's not what i meant...

    FUCK OUT OF HERE..

Aside from body shots, I don't know that I saw Ortiz land more than a couple of truly clean shots.

I don't think anybody really disagrees. It's just that it was a sour ending.

    Shitty card.

Terrible stoppage on the Canelo fight, kid is overrated as hell. He looked lousy. Floyd looked old in there, still too much skill for someone like Ortiz but he has clearly declined a lot.

Mayweather was dominating and backing a 15 pound fighter up. I don't think he has slowed or slipped.

He did. He landed a couple of clean left hands, and unlike Manny's shots, they're pretty fucking telegraphed. He landed some cleanish hooks too.

    No....you fuck off! :finger:

Floyd won that fight AT LEAST 7 rounds to 5. it was a FAKE controversy manufactured by HBO who couldn't score for beans that night.

Castillo lost by two rounds. I used to write down a scorecard for every fight back when I used to watch fights with Reed and had Mayweather up. Close fight and I was saying that Ortiz would have to fight the way Castillo did to win this fight and all he did was box Mayweather's fight.

Manny's punches are far less predictable, this is true. Manny really hates being counterpunched though..and that's what makes a May-Pac fight intriguing.

get the fuck out of here

Kid Gavilan was three times the welterweight Floyd is and he barely beat Basilio (many thought Basilio won) ... Floyd would have the fight of his fucking life

you think Floyd could beat Leonard, for fuck's sake

Especially considering he was the champ, I think Castillo won that fight pretty clearly, 7 rounds to 5. I watched again recently and there aren't 6 rounds you can give Floyd, let alone 7.

Not really. Ortiz roughed up Floyd a little bit against the ropes but not much more.

Floyd was in control. He just took opportunistic shots at Ortiz while his hands were down. Whether or not it was justified in retaliation, cheap or even illegal doesn't really matter when it's all said and done.

Ortiz was never going to beat Floyd.
