I could definitely see any of those three doing the exact same thing. It's not like Floyd immediately took revenge after the headbutt. He reciprocated the hugs, cortez administered the point deduction then waved the fight back and said "let's go" and Ortiz just stood there like a dummy.

Hagler, leonard Ali would have certainly thrown punches at him. No doubt.

 

Ortiz clearly quit. Everything about that whole sequence of events including the knockdown was Ortiz finding a way out of the fight.

Strangely happy was Ortiz after the fight was over, didn't you think?

And you have to be kidding about Morales. Cano won about 3 rounds, then Morales started to lay on a beating. No fucking way was that guy winning more rounds than Morales. Morales was hardly getting hit with ANTYHING clean.

Testament to this is Erik's face after the fight, which has always been very easy to mark up etc.

Floyd took out a YOUNGER, BIGGER, STRONGER, FASTER, LION

 

Mayweather was classy in the ring as usual. Outside of the ring is a different matter...but between the ropes he's a gentleman. Even with the way the fight ended...Floyd could have cheap-shotted him many seconds earlier. As it was, it wasn't a cheap shot. It was a legal shot landed after the ref waved them in to fight on a guy that simply didn't want to fight anymore.

Any "controversy" is manufactured in the minds of the haters.

Floyd took care of business as a professional fighter should. If Floyd had waited and let Ortiz continue to hug and kiss him and mess around...THAT would have been worthy of criticism.

I don't have a problem with how it ended, it's a fucking fight after all, not a love-in. I just think Ortiz isn't very good.

 

In case anyone hasn't mentioned it already, PBF did a similar thing to Mosley of punching him when he tried to touch gloves. So Ortiz either should've known or was looking for a way out of the fight.

 

Let's take it to the extreme:

Let's say that Floyd didn't hit him but just stood there waiting for Ortiz to want to fight. Let's then say that the bell sounded and then after the 1 min break, Ortiz came out and still wanted to hug and kiss and tap gloves. Should Floyd have continued to refrain from punching just to appear as a nice guy to guys like yourself and Jaws?

The other possibility is that a head-butt as blatant as Ortiz threw it was thrown in the hopes of being disqualified.

 

wtf are you talking about? i'm making the point that Ortiz should've been ready for the punch. that PBF has a history of taking advantage of opponents' tendency to be off guard.

The point is...Floyd did what any fighter would do if the ref waves the fight back on after a foul...punch the opponent. Ortiz should have been ready.

Mayweather accepted the hug...if he wanted to fight he should have done so as soon as Cortez said 'time in'...but Ortiz wanted to hug and Floyd was cool with that, as you can see from the gif

a similar thing would have been if he just feinted touching gloves and threw a punch instead

Let's not act like it wasn't cheap to hit a guy like that, you know it was. Warranted or not, that was a cheap ass shot. He looked, saw Ortiz looking at the ref with his hands down, and took the shots. It was as cheap as it gets. It's like the guys who pretend they want to touch gloves then hits you instead, no difference. You can jump on the "Time was in" wagon all you want, that doesn't make it any less a cheap shot.

 

ummm enough time to allow his sub-par piece of shit mismatch of an opponent a second to get into fighting stance..perhaps?

what usually happens (if you've seen a boxing match before) in these situations is both fighters take a step back

i know Floyd was depesperate to finally get another KO but come on...fighting a scrub and then using a cheap shot to win

 

can the moderators not just lock every floyd thread that is made with the tagline,
