Ortiz and Maidana were both prime and in their natural weight class. Maidana won, and would win again, because he's the better, tougher fighter.

 

Ortiz was GREEN and also unmotivated.

Ortiz that fought Berto was obviously a better fighte rthan the one who quit vs Maidana.

Improved heart. He had no quit in him vs Berto and he was receiving the same amount of punishment but from a bigger fighter.

I admit I used to like Ortiz and find him fun to watch pre Maidana, but after the Berto fight (long before he was Floyd's opponent), I said at the time I'm hesitant to give him too much credit or forget about what happened Vs Maidana because Berto is just not a good fighter at this level.

It's the same fucking guy Sly, sure he looked motivated but that was it, against Berto. He looked just as motivated early against Maidana but Maidana broke his spirit.

The same Ortiz that fought Maidana once again showed his face against Floyd, and even against Berto and Peterson didn't have the gusto to step it up and stop them, even though he could have stopped both of them, he is weak mentally.

 

He wasn't receiving anywhere near the same punishment. Berto landed single shots that knocked Ortiz down, but apart from that it was just the odd slapping flurry.

Maidana was walking him down and beating the crap out of him, the two situations aren't even close.

If Berto had walked him down and beaten him up, he would have quit again, just like he quit against Floyd, and just like he fell apart mentally against Peterson and let him back in the fight after failing to stop him.

Despite being knocked down by Berto, I don't know that Ortiz was ever mentally pushed in that fight like he was with Maidana and Floyd.

In the Maidana fight, Ortiz couldn't stop Maidana's forward pressure despite the knockdowns. With Floyd, Ortiz just couldn't get to him or avoid the right hand. In both cases he folded mentally and bitched up.
