The greatness of the comparitive opposition is IRRELEVANT. A guy can only fight the best avaiable threats to him at the time. You weary me with this nonsense. I agree that leonard has fought greater opposition, but that's because the opposition he had at the time was greater than what floyd had.

The Analogies that I presented can't be refuted though.

Yes because CALLING MAYWEATHER out always WORK....except if your name is Margarito, Williams or Winky(ohh wait Mayweather said some bullshit about fighting WINKY, winky called his bullshit..and May back peddle)

If you are small Marquez or Ricky Hatton...then calling Mayweather out WORKS....

AND Yes Mayweather would have been the favorite vs. all 3 and? what is your point? All three of them were/would've been a much bigger challenge than Hatton who got punked by Luis Collazo..

    Dude.....

Hatton was more relevant in boxing than Cotto was...regardless of the supposed "punking" by Collazzo. Maybe Collazzo had the wrong style for him the way Forrest had for Mosley. Who knows? Does change the fact that Hatton was a proven undefeated top 5 P4P fighter who called out Floyd. He was a greater name in the sport than quiet Cotto girlish bumbarass!

My logic in this thread is sound. My analogies unbreakable. Your level of intellect...embarassing. At least Cdogg is a worthy opponent for the sly. You are nowhere.

    of course it is relevant!!!

When you have defeated Benitez/Duran/Hearns, you can do pretty much NOTHING for the rest of your life and you're GREAT... Like I said, Hagler is the icing on the cake... to even COMPETE, much less win (I thought he lost, frankly) against Hagler after all that time off, it's just the big ol' cherry on top

You want to play in the Mayweather/Leonard world of comparison, you better stack Mayweather's shit as high possible for his WHOLE CAREER to even come close to JUST those first three opponents

A fighter can only fight the best available opposition during his era. Up to De La Hoya, comparitively speaking, Mayweather did that. He didn't fight Tszyu, but that was due to HBO/Showtime malarky that didn't present that type of obstacle in Leonard's day. Floyd wanted that fight.

Retiring after De La Hoya IS INDEED analogous to Leonard's post Hagler retirement. Any criticism levelled at May for who he should or shouldn't have fought AFTER De La Hoya is analogous to Leonard post Hagler.

Cotto, Williams, Margarito were the best competition available for Mayweather in 2007-2008 @147 and he ran into retirement and avoided all of them. Manny Pacquiao has been his Hannibal Barca...but like a true roman Mayweather is closing the gates and waiting Pacquiao out...hopefully he get old...slowdown...and/or get beat...

After Hatton I agree with you and share your frustration. But Mayweather decided to stay inactive.

I can defend Mayweather up to and including Hatton. There's no excuse for his inactivity after Hatton. He should either and retired completely or tried to fight Cotto or Margarito at that time. Still coming back and fighting Mosley eventually proved he still wanted stiff challenges. Even small Marquez was a decent comeback opponent as Marquez had proven his greatness in fights with Pacquiao, Casamayor, Barrera, Diaz and later in Katsidis. The size gap between Mayweathe and THE GREAT Marquez was no bigger than Hagler and Duran.

I was watching Mayweather/DLH last night. My first reaction after the fight after I first watched it was that it was a close affair with Floyd the deserved winner. The second time I watched it I gave DLH 3-4 rounds top. I was VERY surprised at how close two judges had it and even more surprised that one judge scored it 115-113 to DLH.

Duran had won a title at 154 and following the Hagler fight, proved himself against Barkley. If and when JMM goes on the win a title at 147, we can talk. Until then, he's not won a title at 140, and he hadn't prior to fighting PBF.

But Having Said that, WORST CASE SCENARIO, Floyd's 2-3, RIGHT NOW...

Also depends on how Nonito Donaire looks in his next fight. Floyd at #4 wouldn't be a stretch...we're talking active fighters vs a guy who fights once every year and a half.
