Badr Hari retires from kickboxing and will be heading to the US for a boxing careerSeptember 28, 2011 -

Badr Hari has decided to retire from kickboxing to start a new career as a boxer. On January 28, 2012, Badr Hari will fight his last kickboxing match on the IT’S SHOWTIME event in WTC Expo in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. After this fight, he will go to the United Stated to fully work on his boxing career.

This announcement will be a shock to the millions of kickboxing fans all around the world, but the sport of boxing will welcome and embrace this charismatic fighter.

In the U.S., many see Badr Hari as the man to relaunch the popularity of boxing, and he’s being seen as a mix of Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.

Badr doesn’t just want to say goodbye to kickboxing and therefore he has chosen Gökhan Saki as his last opponent in kickboxing. Many millions of fans of combat sports have been waiting for this fight for years, and now they have the opportunity to see it.

If K-1 will host a World Grand Prix this year, Badr will also participate to that. The Grand Prix Final is scheduled for December 10 in China. If this World Grand Prix will take place, depends if K-1 will be able to pay its debts to IT’S SHOWTIME and others. If not, the fight on January 28 will be Badr’s only remaining fight as a kickboxer.

Is there even a remote chance this will be a succes for Badr `The Golden Boy` Hari? No need to comment the ridiculous line where they mention Ali and Tyson.

I don't follow kickboxing to be honest, is this guy good? The different extremes Pele Reid and Vitali Klitschko reached in boxing go to prove that reaching a high level in kickboxing doesn't really have any bearing in how you'd do as a traditional boxer

Never heard of him. Just checked out some youtube clips. Very explosive and good power but he punches extremely wide.

No world class boxer would get hit with those shots if they don't have to worry about leg kicks. Will be interesting to see.

He seems explosive. In the fights I have seen him I have gotten the impression that he punches hard and is pretty quick too. That being said, he is good by kickboxing and K1 standards, how he looks against an actual boxer is whole different matter (Reid being a great example)

Well, he´s the best Kickboxer in the world. 26 years old, A superior natural athlete, he´s 1.97m and 230pound shredded. Aggressive ass hell. True warrior spirit. The man can bang no doubt about it. But at the end off the day, he´s still schooled as a kickboxer, and not as a boxer. I just dont see it happening for him to be honest.

Klitschkos might as well pack it in. By the time Badr Hari and Richard Towers arrive, there's ain't gonna be no hiding place for them no more.

It's a surprising move. Maybe he feels kickboxing has nothing to offer at the moment? He's fast and explosive, but he carries hands low and swings wildly. He might make some noise but my guess is he packs it back in and returns to K-1 after he realizes boxing is not a game he can walk through easily. Oh, and either Klitschko, if healthy, wins every round against him.

It would be intriguing to see him in there with a top ranked boxer. Can he evolve sufficiently in time? My guess is no. Likely a poor man's David Haye.

    Agreed.

Wasn't Arlovski also thinking of switching to boxing (among some other guys).

The level of competition they'd be up against wouldn't matter too much. (obviously it would be tomato cans at first) I think when they just start sparring B and C level fighters they realize how far behind the curve they are and decide it's beyond them to make a real career out of it.

No fucking way. The man is a coward and a bully, and he unravel as soon as he face adversity (see his fights againts Bonjasky and the egyptina dude whose name I forget). Yes he's very explosive, but I doubt he makes any noise in boxing

A year making the American heavyweight scene he'll be 280, move like marmalade down a wooden chopping board and have the warrior spirit of Eeyore.

is it fair to say that his chin sucks? i mean kickboxing's a different sport, but a punch to the chin is a punch to the chin and he's been knocked out before in less than 2 rounds more than once. actually, what size gloves did k-1 fighters wear?

Anyway, this move is utterly dubious. Badr's probably going to get fucked up.

He's not going to be accustomed to the length and pace of boxing matches, his hands and defense aren't that great to begin with, and he has a mediocre chin.

However, now that I think of it...Heavyweights are REALLY bad. He may be half-decent.

lol, Hari certainly doesn't have a true warrior spirit. In fact, it's his biggest weakness ( yes, bigger than his chin ), he's a pure front runner. He may ko some fools with his straig right wich is dynamite but I don't expect him to go very far.

I would have love to see Hari in MMA as he could use all of his skillset. But sadly, he hates the grappling aspect of the sport and won't commit to it.

Define warrior spirit then. 77 Wins (63 (T)KO's, 14 decisions) and 11 Losses is a pretty good record for not having a warrior spirit. He's been fighting in the ring since he was 12. The man obvioulsy lives for his moment of violent glory. As for the chin, all the top guy's in the K1 go down as regulary as a clock against each other. Its inherent to the sport of Kickboxing. Schilt, Overeem, Aerts, you name it. All of them have been KO'ed a couple off times.

For example, Ray Mercer has a great chin, but when he gets kicked in the face, its a whole new ballgame.
