Since that night in Tokyo 1990, what do you consider the biggest shock in the boxing world?

Good question. I'm really not sure. I can't think of the most recent time I was that shocked at an underdog winning.

I was very surprised at Pacquiao beating Barrera, but I guess that was mainly down to my own stupidity underestimating Pacquiao. How much of a favourite was Barrera?

Funnily enough again with Pacquiao, I was pretty shocked he just whupped Oscar like that.

There must be far bigger upsets than those though, like Sanders against Wlad for one.

To quality as a major upset the fighter must be at least a 10-1 underdog and dismissed by pretty much all writers and fans etc.

    Barrera vs Pac, numero uno.....

    Rahman-Lewis 1
    Brown-Norris 1
    Baldomir-Judah

From what I was able to find, Baldomir was a 16 to 1 underdog, Rahman was around the same range. I've read 15 to 1 in some articles, 20 to 1 in others.

Some fights that I had in mind have already been mentioned but I'd add Forest-Mosley. I remember I was in total disbelief when Forest first rocked (badly) Mosley. The bodyshot was crazy too. Shane is damn tough to have been able to hear the final bell.

Agreed on all, though you can add Randall-Chavez I to the list. Even if Chavez was due in retrospect, my 18-1 framed/copied betting slip says most didn't see it coming.

In same month, Holy/Tyson I and Junior Jones/MAB I were considerably shockers.

I guess the close first fight disqualifies Jones/Tarver II... I've never been that shocked though.

I was going to say the same. Tarver winning wasn't that much of a shock but the sudden ending was

How do you think he compares to other HWY champions?

The ko was unforeseen, but a tough fight for Jones was still expected, I don't think anyone was thinking Jones vs. Griffin II all over again...

In all honesty I wasn't particularly surprised about Rahman Lewis 1. I've always thought Lewis is a chinny faggot.

I was FAR more shocked with Tarver Vs Jones 2. I mean, I know Tarver gave him a tough fight, but did anyone really expect him to just get KTFO in 2 rounds? It was more the manner of victory than the victory itself.

Where would you rate him among HWY champs?
Which one's would you pick to beat him when he's at his best? (whatever/ whenever you choose that to be)

To be honest Lennox's lazy preparations and the altitude meant Lewis-Rahman I wasn't as huge a shock for me as it should have been. In fact there were a few people predicting an upset in that one, I remember it well because it was the first heavyweight title fight on the BBC in years. Therefore they were building it up for weeks, they got Chris Eubank to do the national lottery and he picked Rahman based on the preparations of Lewis, a fair few people saw it coming

I remember all of this too. Was really weird, with the BBC getting involved and all, then Lewis got himself KTFO. Strange times.

  30. I was thinking more along the lines of Jones-Telesco to be honest with you. I was NEVER impressed with Tarver. I remember Harding completely outboxing him in the first fight and Tarver only pulling out the rematch only because of a big punch.

I saw a weight drained, weak, slow, tired, lackadaisical Jones clearly win the first fight 7 rounds to 5. I thought that by the 2nd fight Jones will be back used to the 175lb weight class, close to his best and would whip Tarver easily as he would have done in his prime.

I never saw that coming. I was literally like this.... :jaw:

    I actually couldn't believe it.
