    Indeed.

I thought for sure he'd go back to form in the second fight, but again a minute into it, I thought he still looked flat... Even with that, I never in a million years imagined him out cold

I felt worse for REED than I did for Jones

And then somebody (I wish I could remember who did it) posted something in TAA "Hey Reed" and it was a .gif of a flickering candle with "The Way We Were" playing in the background... absolutely hilarious and REED was a great sport about it

Totally agree on Jones Tarver II being the top shocker.
Rahman - Lewis is up there also

Some other notables that at least surprised me at the time:

Raheem - Morales (I think it was Morales first fight after nearly shutting out Pacman)

Pacman - DLH, most people thought Pacman was the better fighter at respective points in their career, but believed it was an insane jump in weight that would be impossible for him to overcome, let alone dominate.

Johnson - Jones, thinking the Tarver KO was somewhat of a fluke, this was still a bit of a surprise, although more than anything it just cemented Jones' status as beyond-shot

    Mayorga - Forrest

All 3 judges scored it 115-113 for Morales.

Pac--DLH is up there too actually. I thought that fight was a farce.

    word.

I NEVER expected that result. I thought it was a farce as you say...a mismatch in Oscar's favour.

Good call on DLH-Pac. I thought genuinely worried for Mannys health going into that, but I changed my mind 10 minutes before and went for Pacquiao. Not because I saw anything, but because I was incredibly drunk and got all sentimental about a fellow Asian being in a fight of that kind of that magnitude. I won a tenner off my mate. Bought more beer.

Incorrect. In fact, quite a few people saw it coming at the time.

Everyone I talked to in the industry back then in the weeks leading up to the fight took note of the fact that Rahman went to S. Africa well in advance to train and get properly acclimated to his surroundings.

Meanwhile, the closest Lewis was to a ring for most of that time was in the fight scenes he filmed for "Ocean's Eleven."

It was an upset for sure, but more of a reality check (for Lewis) than anything else

I though Pac might be biting off more than he could chew until I saw how worn out and slow Hoya looked in the opening minutes

Yeah but....it was kinda like the Briggs-Wilson upset in 1996...a big upset according to the odds...but who gives a shit when talking about a mediocre no stamina chinny motherfucker.

I never saw why Sanders-Wlad was such a huge upset.....Sanders was always dangerous, he stopped a number of solid but unspectacular opponents very early. Neither was Rahman-Lewis, it was clear beforehand Lewis wasn't serious about the fight.

But some big upsets....... ( to me anyway)
Tzysu vs Phillips....Philips just got hammered by Quartey, then came back and knocked out Tyzsu, quite memorable, made even more memorable by Roy's completley impartial "YES, YES, YES, YES" right after the end

Dingaan Thobela winning WBC supermiddleweight title from Catley... it was considered a joke fight at the time. Catley wasn't very good, but a guy like thobela never had any business holding a mainstream world title at such a high weight.

Julio gonzalez beating Dariusz Michalczewski...maybe not the biggest upset, but a mild surprise, even though Daruisz was slipping by then
Rahman-Maskaev... (1st fight)was shocking to me, especially the momentum Rahman and going, and the abrupt ending to that.
Byrd -Vitali, again not the biggest upset, since Vitali wasn't proven yet, but I don't think many would of predicted that.

that's all i can think of right now.

Thobela is one of the biggest wastes of spectacular talent ever

Tszyu was only a 6-1 favorite over Phillips so it doesn't count in that sense, but, as I remember, no one bet on Phillips to win indicating that the odds should have been bigger.

Thobela Catley is probably a very good one, but I don't know what the odds were for that fight? Same with Gonzalez Michalczewski?

As to dlh/pacquiao, I picked Pacquiao by decision and there were others who did as well. Pacquiao was ripped as a lightweight. It was no miracle that he could carry 12 more pounds and still outwork dlh.

Right, but you only picked Pacquiao by decision to be different.

dude was leafing through a list of RING "Upset Of The Year" fights looking for whatever was most likely to have been long forgotten, you just fucking KNOW it

Yeah, THAT is the biggest upset since Douglas/Tyson and then the guy says other picks DON'T BELONG IN THIS THREAD

That is like saying "sure, Douglas/Tyson was a big surprise but did ya see Roger Stafford W10 Pipino Cuevas, WAAAY MORE SHOCKING!"
