    Great movie. :bears:

John Singleton really had a chance to become an important director but has really pissed it away to make a bunch of cheesy commercial popcorn flicks.

I can't believe he's responsible for the latest Taylor Lautner disaster. :shit:

No, it's about an upper middle class black neighborhood in Florida that gets torched by lower class jealous whiteys in the 1920's.

    Based on a true event.

Roots is more upsetting than Amistad. In fact, rosewood is more upsetting IMO. Amistad is inspiring to some degree.

I walked out of Amistad when they tied the slaves to the rocks and dumped them into the ocean. That was enough for me.

I'm sure the famous "Give us us frrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeee" which I saw clips of after gave a little tingle, but that was an upsetting movie to begin with no doubt.

This movie was a bit of a disappointment to me. I don't think Spielberg took it far enough. Djimon Honsou was amazing in his role, but he didn't get nearly enough screen time.

I thought they made a mistake focusing too much on the Anthony Hopkins and Matthew McConoughy roles.

It started off harrowing, but they played it pretty safe the rest of the movie.

This is exactly right. This movie could have been epic and to me, it's a forgotten slice of cinema. It was too safe. But it's spielberg. Had this been a recent scorcese film, you might have gotten something special.
