JC Chavez vs Ruben Castillo is one of my absolute favorite JCC fights. I like how at just 22, Chavez already had that pressure-fighter sophistication (what with the feints, footwork, in-fighting and quick power punching) a guy like JL Castillo today could only dream of. Even young, you could already tell this guy was exceptional.

Ruben Castillo was 62-4, and had already suffered losses to Juan La Porte, Sal Sanchez and Alexis Arguello. But at 27, he was nonetheless still very formidable and Chavez dissected him in six rounds. That is badass.

Rosario -- Rosario was in shape and he was sharp... but he was simply manhandled... picked apart and left looking like a gargoyle

Camacho -- It's easy to forget that, although he had been exposed as a front runner by Rosario, Camacho was still a guy that had never really been beaten and had a negative style that made landing anything substantial on him difficult... Chavez made it look easy, landing seemingly more clean shots on Camacho than the previous 40 guys combined, winning basically every round and hammering Hector from pillar to post... you could argue this was really the last peak performance of Chavez's career and it couldn't have come at the expense of a nicer guy (lol)

LaPorte -- while there is a small minority of people who believe Chavez lost (I don't know how anyone objectively scores this as a win for Laporte, frankly... I think 7-5 is about as generous as you can get it) and thus it could be dismissed as a bad performance, I rank it as one of his best. People forget that when LaPorte let his hands go, he pushed EVERYONE back... When he kept his focus and threw punches, he was extremely formidable because of his power and his absurd chin... He got the instant respect of every fighter that ever traded with him, nobody beat him exchanging blows with him, except for Chavez... LaPorte gave the best effort of his career, he was busy every round and Chavez fought fire with fire and got the better of it... Sanchez, Gomez, Pedroza, Nelson, McGuigan; they didn't do that... Once they traded a little with Laporte, they stuck to boxing him and trying to frustrate him... Chavez fought LaPorte's ideal fight and still beat him, he's the only guy I have seen trade with LaPorte and come out on top in the exchanges... considering the great and very good fighters who found they couldn't do that, I'd say it's a great accomplishment... I liken it to Rodrigo Valdez outfighting Bennie Briscoe on the inside...

Rosario was my fave. Chavez positively mauled him, made him look 2nd-rate.

Wouldve enjoyed seeing Chavez in with Nelson at 130.

Rosario is probably JCC's best win. I also like the fact that in the span of 1987-88, Chavez had like, iirc, 9-10 fights, which included tough guys like Cabrera, Limon, JL Ramirez and, yes, Rosario. That's impressive.

Camacho literally had nothing for Chavez. The moment he realized he couldn't hurt JCC (which pretty much happened in the 1st round), and felt the heat in Chavez's punches, he was already survival mode.

Agreed on Laporte. Nobody ever had an easy time with him.
