It is, but it might be enough here. Spinks jabs and lands first, runs, clinches, bitches, throws another jab, runs some more, hangs on, and in the end walks (or runs) away with a close decision victory. Bad styles match up for Duran
OK, lets go through the facts here again...... Ray Leonard was one of the 10 best fighters of all time. Ray Leonard had a 24 foot ring. Ray leonard could still only win 4 of 7 completed rounds. Corey Spinks might qualify as suitable sparring preparation for a fight with Ray Leonard. There's styles and there's levels. The half interested zombie Duran of the post New Orleans years still beats Spinks.
Right, I am not saying that Spinks would easily stop Duran before the halfway like Leonard did, nor would he score a near shutout on scorecards the way Benitez did. However his reach allows him to land first and he could tie his man effectively inside (Taylor, who was much bigger than Duran, couldn't hurt him there). Duran wasn't a big puncher at welter so he wouldn't hurt Spinks enough to stop him. It goes to scorecards and it could go either way
agree completely that Ugo is dead wrong here but, the scoring in Benitez/Duran was retarded... Benitez won a minimum of 10 rounds in that fight
