What type of fights do you like to see most?

My favorite type of fights are the fights where top fighters have a great slugfest. I don't really like fights of the type where a lot of running and slickness is involved. Fights that I enjoy are for example Hagler vs Hearns, Toney-Jirov, Lewis-Vitaly, Corrales-Castillo. Holyfield-Bowe, Bowe-Golota.

Virtuoso performances for me. Fights where a great fighter puts on a dominant display against a guy good enough for it to mean something.

I also enjoy them but less than high level slugfests. Ali vs Cleveland Williams comes to mind.

Depends whether you mean as a live spectacle or a fight to rewatch, I think. Slugfests are better live, showcases of skill have the most rewatch value (to me).

    Exactly right.

My favorite fights are sort of combinations of both, clashes of style and tactic are interesting (Arguello-Pryor, Leonard-Hearns for example)

    Good call. Same.

    same here

when it's happening live, a great back-and-forth fight is one fo the special things about the sport, but it has far less replay value

a great performance, on the other hand, can be savored forever

Holyfield - Bowe - great example of a great slugfest.

    Virtuoso performances, Mayweather - Corley.

im a fan of virtuoso performances.... slug fests are good from time to time but i like seeing overly skilled guys go out in a chess match

Fights where a less-talented dude slugs his way into contention on sheer guts and effort.

At least you know what you are dealing with there.

Too many of these "virtuoso" performances involve hand-picking and weight-stipulations, designed to make light of an ostensibly "hard fight"

Some of the amateur stuff has been an example of this, where guys with less talent slugged their way back into the fight after difficult starts.

In many cases yes, but of course not in all.

Watching a great performance doesn't have to be taken into context though. It's just about watching it, not what it "means".

What can I say. I know boxing. Who I am. Cars and stuff.

    Lomachenko. BELIEVE.

But fear not Steve, maybe, maybe, just maybe, the Brazilian kid who flopped around like a fish out of water vs the Ukrainian in the Light-Welters....he might have just enough of a feral background to help stem the tide.

If not then I foresee Simian Street in your future.

Steve, I made a genuine post about what sort of fights I like. But you had to have a little snide dig.

    Everton Dos Santos.
    CAN HE DO IT???

Remember the good old days, when we could just log on to talk about boxing? This place is worse than it was the day before every time you post, dear Irish.

I was talking boxing. It was you who injected the little dig about "The Media". :dunno:

That post was half boxing, half conspiracy.

It's a shame. You could bring so much more to the table, but that paranoia gets the better of you every time.

Ehhh....no, it was just boxing mate. I like club-foots like Antuofermo who make a fight of it. Boxings easy when you have the talent, but the guys who make the sport what it is are the guys who don't have talent but think they do, and insist they do, and the guys who do have talent whom they force to use that talent.

    Example: Hagler vs Antuofermo.

    So what's this, then?

Too many of these "virtuoso" performances involve hand-picking and weight-stipulations, designed to make light of an ostensibly "hard fight"

    Garbage is what it is.
