List them, they dont have to be in order.

I'm assuming DeNiro, Pacino, Hoffman, DDL, and Hackman will make just about everybody's list. Who else?

  2. My list would be controversial.

    in no particular order:

    Hackman
    Brando
    Heston
    DeNiro
    Hopkins
    Pacino
    Connery
    Freeman
    Washington
    Daniel Day Lewis

    P.S.

Christoph Waltz deserves an honorable mention for his performance in IB alone. One of the best performances of all time. Incredible.

  3. Jimmy

Jimmy The Greatest of Are Times

In no certain order: (Off top of my head)

    Hackman
    DeNiro
    Al Pacino
    Brando
    Nicholson
    Connery
    Eastwood
    Hoffman
    Hopkins
    Newman

Best Hollywood actor or the best period? And judging their skill or personal liking (which is the only way Connery could be listed)

  5. If personal liking only I would have listed Harrison Ford, or Bruce Willis...but I didn't.

    Connery was an exceptional actor.

No. He was a charismatic guy for sure but as an actor he was very average. Or at least I haven't seen many roles of him where he would express several emotions or played complex characters

  7. Since when were you the authority on who is a good actor and who isn't?

Check out Dr No and From Russia with Love

Forget that it's "action genre" and just consider the performances themselves. Tremendous.

On an aside: Woody Harrelson is also a tremendous actor

The same day you or anybody here has become the authority to say anything about boxing :dunno:

  9. Jimmy

Jimmy The Greatest of Are Times

    Connery is excellent.

  10. ArturoGatti

so only actors from the English speaking world are good?

Connery is not an excellent actor, but he i spretty good. Should not be in any top 10 ever lists.

LMFAOO @ Connery! You've gotta be joking!

Good mention for Hopkins though. He definitely belongs.

Exactly! Especially considering Sly didnt list Hoffman, who should be one everyone's list.

Dustin Hoffman has more acting talent in his left nut than Connery.

Shit, Robin Williams as an actor>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sean Connery

  14. How could you be hatin' on Connery?

    "Bond, James Bond"

"That's a Smith 'n' Wesson and you've had your six"

    :partie:

  15. Dustin Hoffman doesn't deserve to be mentioned. Fuck you and fuck Hoffman. Overratted little big head ugly shit. What because of Tootsie and Rainman? Fuck him.

I can think of 10 additional actors right off the top of my head that are better actors than Dustin Hoffman!

    Jeremy Irons
    John Malcovich
    Clint Eastwood
    Sir Lawrence Olivier
    Peter O'Toole
    Yul Brunner
    Charles Bronson
    Kevin Spacey
    Eli Walach
    Christopher Walken

  16. Hopkins is a SUPERB actor.

He was even great as Odin.

Hackman was brilliant in The Conversation. (top 3 movies of the 70s, IMO beside Network & Taxi Driver)

Im not sure he's top 10 though,,,,

  23. r o o s t e r

    r o o s t e r "Twinkle Toes" McJack

none of those performances are really first-class. just not deep enough, not enough scope for him to do a really first-class job.

his work in french connection was pretty good. never saw the conversation, so maybe i'm missing a sterling performance there. the guy's great, but just haven't even seen him take on the kind of role where he could match de niro, day-lewis, et al.

  24. Slice N Dice

Slice N Dice Big stiff idiot

I guarantee you Tom Hardy will end up on these lists in the next 10 years

Want a fight about it? I'll meet you in Liverpoool

  26. We must agree to disagree padna.

  27. If Unforgiven and Crimson Tide don't convince you I don't know what else to tell you padna.

That's like me showing someone Ali vs Cleveland Williams and them telling me they don't see what the hype about Ali was.

    I give up.

  28. Roll With The Punches

Roll With The Punches WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

Connery? wtf...the guy is the exact same character in every movie

even when he was playing a Russian he was the same character

    he sucks!!

versatility should be half the criteria when judging whether an actor is great

  29. r o o s t e r

    r o o s t e r "Twinkle Toes" McJack

you're missing a word in your sig. "they're still gonna get hit eventually."
