Hopkins/Dawson Under-card...

Bernard Hopkins vs. "Bad" Chad Dawson (Dawson will win which makes the card worthwhile)

    *Antonio DeMarco vs. Jorge Linares
    **Danny Garcia vs. Kendall Holt
    ***Paul Malignaggi vs. Orlando Lora

off TV: Collazo vs. Freddy Hernandez

*Also, seeing a match-up like DeMarco vs. Linares reminds me that Valero is gone, and that if he weren't, he'd probably still be undefeated. Sucks.

**I don't know Danny Garcia. At first I thought he was Mikey Garcia. But I see now that he's Danny Garcia. I take it he's a prospect the promoter hopes to promote?

***Sort of pisses me off. Why is Malignaggi on TV, but Collazo vs. Hernandez, a fight that will surely be entertaining, is not?

Anyway, what does everyone think of the under-card?

so we have a questionnable ppv worthy main event and instead of putting a undercard with some fighters who have a bit of a following, we get this. Sure Linares-Demarco is a solid fight, so is Holt-Garcia ( who I guess is a decent prospect ), but none of them will help sell ppv.

I can't imagine this card doing very well on PPV. Nobody cares about Dawson, and Hopkins has never been a draw. The least they could have done is stack the undercard. This should be on HBO/SHO, not PPV.

No.....its a decent nights entertainment which should be on terrestrial TV for no charge.

At $50 a pop, its pure garbage.

no, its more awesome than ever before

    the athletes are super beings

there's a diamond belt to fight for

and the former soviet bloc is pumping out superb technicians by the dozens

seriously, just shoot me at this point... 90% of this site can't face reality

The former Soviet bloc? I never heard of the former Soviet bloc. In fact I never heard of any Soviet bloc, former, latter, current etc.

How can I face something that doesn't exist?

The first two points are valid. The proliferation of belts is beyond being ridiculous. The replacement of old school skills honed over time with "Athleticism" is a worrying fad which has become the norm.

Ironically, one guy with old-school skills all of his own, is one of the aforementioned none-existent technicians from that dubiously described geo-political entity you mentioned above.

Who started this "Athleticism" nonsense? Hard to say. David Reid might be a good place to start, the injury-enforced fast-tracking of an athletic fighter into title fights, a guy whose career peaked at 10 fights and crashed at 20 fights.

But when you have guys like Arreola being described as "Elite-Athletes" by their promoters, who then tell us their "Elite-Athletes" need 2 months to get into shape, well then yes, I do quake for boxing.

I know, I was just fucking with you. Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc.

I think Vitali has old school skills.

His motor skills and his joints are so relatively shot that he has to have some skills otherwise he would be getting beaten down.

Against Arreola, he feinted a jab to the head, turned it into a left hook to the liver, then pulled back from Arreolas own left.

    Whatever happened to jab-sway-jab?

    Vitali is a notable EXCEPTION

the fact is, these countries haven't produced anything worth a damn... they have taken up some spots in the rankings via a lack of depth

It'd be like if Spain and Brazil ceased playing soccer or producing players... the quality of the overall game plummets

I'm looking forward to these fights on Saturday. It will be nice to see Hopkins lose decisively.

Oh, he lost to Calzaghe. And drew with Pascal. And less recently lost to Taylor.

But when have we ever seen Hopkins lose decisively? Or take any significant amount of punishment? Saturday is our chance.

Hopkins' bitch will be wide on display against Chad. We'll see him bitch through the fight, probably throw low-blows, and then turn around and complain if anything strays remotely low against him. Oh, and watch him bitch and moan that he's being hit on the back of the head (in the midst of bending over no less).

Dawson is going to pound Hopkins, and then rematch and destroy Pascal, and take over the division once again. You watch. The guy is horribly under-rated at this point simply because he fell victim to Pascal's puss tactics.

I'm going for Garcia to beat Holt in a close decision.

Holt is the favourite and is quick and hits hard, but I have a feeling Garcia can do this. He'll make it tough for Holt.

Really? Holt is favored? That's interesting because Garcia is definitely the prospect here. I like it. Imagine that - matching a prospect up with a guy who is favored to beat him.

Holt is better than his recent record indicates, but he definitely has had mental lapses. But he's a talented fighter for sure.

I've not seen Garcia at all, that I remember.

My bad. I've checked many other boxing websites and many predict a Holt win (the majority by KO).

The Bookies have Garcia clear favourite, with Holt given a big price to win.

Holt is dangerous, but I see something in Garcia's style that will pose him problems, BUT there is the possibility he leaves himself open to counter punches when Garcia works to the body.

Big price like what? 13/10?? clear favorite? Actually Garcia started at 33/20 at 5dimes and went to even now he is a slight fav...

13/10 now yeh, for a Holt win. The price on Holt was bigger than this when i last checked.

    Garcia 8/13 on.

It'll be a close fight. The odds will slim down i'm sure for a Holt win.

Didn't you read what I said, Holt was the fav, where did you see the big price for Holt if I may ask?

Jimmy The Greatest of Are Times

I read what you said yes. I've checked the usual bookies (william hill, paddy power etc), they've had Garcia the favourite since i've been checking throughout the week.

The big price I got was from a local shitty bookies (can't remember the name now, sorry). They had Holt at like 15/1 or something. I'll try find out which bookies it was.

If Dawson shut him out,.. the decision would still be branded 'contraversial'.

It's Bernard Hopkins, forever the sentimental favourite.

yes....He leaves his chin in the air but he's cracking with both hands and sets his shots up nicely.
