I watched a full length documentary on Robingson last night. He was simply Incredible. The Man fought in a way which was astounding. He was lethal, a machine, hit so hard in both hands, had sublime skill and talent, was very quick on his feet and never refused a fight. When he lost he was gracious in defeat and challenged the Men that beat him to a rematch and won those rematches in impressive style. He had tough, gruelling fights with Basilio, Turpin, Fullmer and others.

    He was truly mesmeric.

    redundant.

The general perception from all boxing fans is that he's the G.O.A.T. and was invincible at his best.

Therefore an appreciation thread for him seems overkill.

Greatest career ever, developed the sport a great deal, seemed like a good sportsman. Doesn't look as impressive on the tape as Leonard, Jones, Hopkins etc. though

    Shut up.

I'm dedicating this thread to him as a mark of respect on my behalf. I know he's the G.O.A.T, no question.

He was practically in the ring every month fighting. When he wasn't in the ring, he was training. He lived for Boxing.

He was involved in some terrific bouts.

    A true Gentleman too.

What I do now I do on behalf of all the Leaders around the world but there is one man here on Earth that will never kneel before you.

    But we digress....

Robinson was great. He was the innovator of the African American speedy slickster style of fighting. Before Ali, Leonard, Taylor, Jones, Mosley...there was Robinson.

There is some welterweight footage of him but its hard to make out whats going on sometimes because of how video was then. But I have seen enough to know that he must have been a animal in his prime.

"This is your President. On behalf of my country and in the name of the other leaders of the world with whom I have today consulted, I hereby abdicate all authority and control over this planet to General Zod. Only by following all his directives will the lives of millions be spared...
Superman! Can you hear me? Superman! Where are you..."

    "Who is this Superman?"

"You'll find out and when you do..."

"Come to me, Superman! I defy you! Come and kneel before Zod! Zod!"

Fidel LaBarba wanted to go to college, Robinson wanted to tap dance... these things happen

I'm a Hopkins fan, but that statement by UK certainly made me chuckle a bit.
