Hopkins vs Dawson Prediction Thread!

I have learned to appreciate Bernard Hopkins even though he destroyed my hero about 10 years ago. Hopkins is a genius in the ring IMO. I think he will be missed and appreciated much more after he retires. No doubt about it he is one of the BEST ever. Anyway lets get to the predictions.

 

Dawson UD, with very little confidence.

I was ringside for both of their last bouts, Hopkins looked WAY better than Dawson. But I think youth and style will carry the day here.

 

I'm just thinking here... How badly do you guys think Hopkins has faded since Tarver?

He was obviously much more impressive vs. Tarver than Dawson was.

 

I keep going back and forth on this because I think so little of Dawson, but even a mediocre 175 pounder at the world level ought to be able to put a stop to this ridiculousness of a long-past-it old man using every bit of guile and negativity to frustrate his clueless Affleete opposition to close decision victories... Bernard has to lose at some point

I think Chads going to win comfortably. Bernard is going to try to rough him up, stay in his chest and break him down. I just think Chad has what it takes to keep him honest and will eventually control the distance and start winning the rounds.

Good point. Age will play a factor at some point. I'm not sure how much longer Hopkins can go at this level.

 

Bernard looked very sharp last few fights and going by his pre fight exercising he is fit as ever. He will win by UD but it could be close. This one will definitely go to the cards. Bernard lives a clean life, no drinking, no running around and that does a lot for an athlete in terms of longevity. He has exceptional stamina in the second half of his fights. That will give him the edge here. GS

 

Dawson via decision.

 

I have Dawson down for a unanimous decision. The trick with beating Hopkins is discipline and composure and 12 round fitness. Keep your hands up, force Hopkins to lead as often as possible, keep your hands moving once you get him to engage, and tire him out.

Dawson has the tools, does he have the mindset? We shall see. But I have him down for the win anyways.

 

Hopkins UD. Dawson has no passion or killer instinct. I think Hopkins finds the same holes Pascal did but will be able to neutralize Dawson who is one dimensional.

 

He did lose to Calzaghe in all fairness. But Dawson aint no Calzaghe.

 

I wonder if Chad will become the latest pfp leper if he wins? It seems fair, to have ended the career of a legend, and all......

 

You know the way things go with Hopkins,.. he could lose 12 - 0 and the decision would be labelled 'contraversial' ,.. I mean people have said 'Hops beat Taylor cause he won da championship rounds',.. so if he wins 3 against Dawson,.. in the minds of the media he's done it, start the write-up.

Hopkins, a sentimental favourite, he'll tell ya he's going to kill you, but he'll take you to court if you propose a drug test.

 

Hopkins reminds me of the IRA. Blowing up children one minute, talking 'bout Human Rights the next.

Well, Bernard complains about being sent to jail, says he is reformed, but is probably on something. Of course, he is aided and abetted by the general lack of bottle by those around him.

 

I was merely jostling you for the IRA comment... the same notions of hypocrisy could be applied to it's staunchest opponents, who are quick to complain of the human rights of inadvertently killed children (whom they happily use as posters) and quicker to silently comply with the atrocities of the other sides (the enemy of my enemy is my friend)
