I've only seen the replay but if I were placing bets I'd say its changed to a no contest. Hopkins can't bitch. He initiated the contact. Suppose he would have pushed Dawson to the ground and hurt Chad's neck when he pushed down with his forearm...would Hopkins have the same stance?
But I don't see the precedent for Dawson sustaining any level of concerted, aggressive effort either, if we're being fair. Bernard fights in a way that is so negative that even if he loses without much controversy on the cards, he seldom takes anything close to a beating... And what of the Echols fight? there was no doubt he was hurt in that one and he got up and won... To me, the Allen incident is too weird to be clearly faked... while it is true that Allen was proving more difficult than expected, Hopkins did go flying out of the ring in such a way that an injury certainly wouldn't have been shocking... I don't think that one can be called definitively either way Also, Hopkins usually starts very slowly... I just don't think that we can predict a beating (something that frankly, no one has really managed to hand Hopkins, even Calzaghe who beat him cleaner than anyone since Roy Jones) based off of some reasonably encouraging snippets in an otherwise uneventful 3 plus minutes

Clearly a no-contest. Nevertheless Hopkins deserves to have a TKO loss on his otherwise perfect record (in terms of not being KO'd or stopped) for continuing to fight way past his sell by date.
Bernard Hopkins has been released from the California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles after being x-rayed and examined by Dr. Sam Thurber, MD who diagnosed Hopkins with a separation of the acromioclavicular (A-C) joint which connects the collar bone and shoulder blade. Guess it was legit. I'm now convinced this will be overturned to a NC.

The ref, Pat Russell, is adamant that no foul occurred. I think this is going to be tough to overturn, but it's possible. I think the correct call is a tko with the sanctioning body can order a rematch or make Bernard their #1 contender if they think there should be a rematch. This is just another fight that shows that a loss isn't just a loss and you have to look at what happened. Bernard lost fair and square. Does it tell us much about how he compares to Dawson or how good he is? No.
