Mayweather didn't deserve any credit for fighting Marquez at 144......same thing goes for Pacquiao,,,,

Wrong...it was Jmm's 1st crack, and May's 1st fight in 2yrs. Did I mention that he asked for this fight?

So now that its been shown that he can't compete at that level, Pac's gonna turn around and fight him?

Mayweather's right, Pacquiao's M.O. is to fight his leftovers.

So May gets credit, Pacquiao doesn't? Just making sure we're on the same page.

So what? What's your point? If what you say is true, it'll be an exception to the rule, which is that Pacquiao fights the best fighters out there.

The only reason Pacquiao took this fight, in my opinion, is because there's demand for it.

There's plenty of doubt lingering about their first two fights.

Both fights were very competitive and exciting.

The first fight was a draw, and the second was controversial.

I'm not sure the point of the thread. Did Pacquiao ever ask for credit for taking the fight? Did anyone ever propose he deserved a lot of credit for it?

I think this thread makes sense only with respect to PBF. But even considering that, it is a puzzling topic for debate, because unlike PBF who needs to actively campaign for and defend his decisions regarding the opponents he fights, Pacquiao's resume, recently and otherwise, is beyond reproach.

The premise of this thread is that Pacquiao's resume is somehow as questionable as PBF's. And that as a result, he's seeking approval regarding his decision to face JMM. That simply isn't the case. Pacquiao's walked the walk and put in the time. He doesn't have to look into the camera and say, "I don't duck or dodge nobody." He doesn't have to do that because nobody with any credibility has ever accused him of doing so.

Okay here's the deal. Manny does deserve a bit credit not too much. If went back down to 135 he would deserve A TON of credit but being what it is he still deserves some credit. He's fighting a guy who arguably beat him twice already. The downside is he's fighting him at a higher weight than JMM is accustomed to. If they never fought before and JMM never proved to have Manny's number and Manny just fought him at welterweight to beat up on him than he's cowardly thrash or Floyd Mayweather Jr. whichever you prefer.

There's demand for a pac-marquez match at welterweight? could have fooled me

I don't speak for the masses but I demanded it.

Then again I also demanded Manny-Floyd and that hasn't really panned out.

As well it should be, he's an undefeated all time great. I know that that's hard for you to digest , but it is what it is.

  16. i think is when they fight from before everyone say they are to fight for one time to make definitely who is better of the fighters so i think it is not so bad in this time

Who has dodged or carefully avoided more challenges than he's actually faced.

To me that will always limit his all time greatness. A true all time great SHOULD take on the best challengers in their primes at their ideal weights.

And that REALLY is what it is.

And don't counter with a litany of challenges Manny has avoided. I am looking at Floyd standing alone and not compared to anyone.

I'm assuming so. Pacquiao is the world's P4P no. 1 fighter in the world, and he competes at 147. And there were many calling for a third match-up.

Now, was there demand for a PBF/JMM fight at 147? The answer to that question is of course, no.

marquez was the one calling out pacquiao. i dont fault manny for taking it. plus, do honestly believe that people will pay more to see him fight bradley (who he'll most likely fight in his next fight)?

so let me get this straight, there was no demand for Floyd/Marquez and that viewpoint was justified by Marquez's clear impotence at the weight...

but now you guys want to see Marquez once again fighting at this impotent weight against Pacquiao because he gave him some tough fights at much lower weights where he wasn't compromised???

I am as critical of Mayweather as anyone, but the blind allegiance to Pacquiao is very bit as galling, in my eyes

This win will prove nothing other than to reinforce that Marquez is not and has never been a welterweight

I think you're confusing whether people want to see the fight and whether people will think it proves anything.

From my perspective, I just think their styles and determination make for fireworks regardless of the weight class.

That being said, it's purely a guilty pleasure. I don't think a win over Marquez at 147 does much to bolster Manny's legacy nor will it diminish the closeness of the previous fights.

You're making the huge mistake of ignoring the context in which these two events have occurred.

Pacquiao has fought everyone the public would've wanted him to fight, and has ducked nobody, and for the time being has largely exhausted the list of credibe opponents at 147.

In addition, Pacquiao has had two competitive and entertaining fights with JMM already, both having ended in controversey.

    JMM called out Pacquiao.

PBF and GBP engineered the JMM fight with no call from the public for it.

Your willingness to ignore the very important context surrounding the Pacquiao/JMM match-up makes your conclusion understandable but the manner in which you've arrived at it unforgivable.

Pacquiao hasn't fought Mayweather, that's the only fight that matters, for both of them... fuck them both

im with Cdogg on this. You cant bash May for taking this fight and not bash pac as well. I dont care if they fought two terrific fights prior and a lower weight class. That has nothing to do with today. This should have everything to do with Marquezs last fight at welterweight and looking like shit.

I already knew this would turn into another Mayweather thread.

Neither deserves credit for a fight with Marquez because simply put, the welterweight limit is too big for Marquez to compete effectively there.

This fight will never happen. And the sad thing is that boxing really needs it. But Floyd is scared, and Manny doesn't seem too eager anymore to make this fight.

    1. Pacquiao could've decided to take on Freddy Hernandez in his next fight, and he still wouldn't deserve criticism because he's proven he walks the walk.

    2. PBF relies on telling the camera, "I don't duck or dodge anyone," to prove his worth.

    3. That's the difference. Pacquiao is standing on cement, saying, okay JMM, I'll fight you a third time if you want to so bad (and the public wants it).

    4. PBF is sinking in sand, reaching for a stick that GBP throws him - a 135 pound JMM.
