By Ryan Burton WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley appeared on the latest edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene's official audio show. The California native recently signed a promotion contract with Top Rank and will make his debut with company on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez pay-per-view on November 12th in Las Vegas. Bradley will face former champion Joel Casamayor. Bradley clarified the current situation with facing IBF/WBA champion Amir Khan. He rejected an offer to face Khan in July, but he believes the fight is still going to happen. Even if Khan moves up to 147, as expected in 2012, Bradley is open to facing him at the new weight. "I'm not ducking Amir Khan. I made a business move. I know exactly what I am doing. I am not ducking Amir Khan at all. Amir can talk all he wants. At 140 or 147 you will see Bradley and Khan get it on.* I told my manager Cameron (Dunkin) to put Khan on my list as someone I want to fight. If it makes sense...why not? That is a fight that the general public and boxing fans want to see," Bradley said. From boxing scene website.
I like Bradley, but he can call it whatever he wants - he ducked Khan. I hope he's able to make it worth his while and that it turns out to have been a good decision for him. But he ducked Khan (who I hate) and that's all there is to it.
i dont think he ever ducked khan. he was trying to become a free agent and now he's on deck to fight pac should he and pac both emerge victorious in november. only thing i dont like about the casamayor fight is that he could suffer a cut, but it's most likely going to be a dull affair that will have him put in some rounds.
Did he duck Khan? Yes. Was he scared of Khan? No. He knows that the WBC/WBO 140lb title is his ticket to a big money match. A fight now with either Khan or Pac brings him big $ but before the Judah-Khan fight, it was just a unification. Now its for the "Undisp" title and carries much more weight. Of course the same goes for Khan but Khan is looking also at Floyd. I think Bradley played his cards right here.
Well he did duck Khan, there's no two ways about it. He was offered a Khan fight and refused, the money was decent too.
I think we need a clear definition of the word "duck" here. I always thought when a boxer ducked a fighter it was done because he flat out didn't want to fight him whether because he was scared or it was a lose lose situation he didn't want to chance. However if the fight was "avoided" for financial reasons as in Bradley's case then I would think it's not a case of ducking but just not accepting the fight at that time. To me ducking is a cowardly word and if one doesn't think Bradley is scared of Khan then can it really be called ducking?
Exactly. Like take Floyd - Pac for example, it just doesn't make sense for Floyd to sign, the money just ain't there :dunno:
bradley will make at least 5 times as much against pacquiao has he would have got for khan. he's also beat better competition than khan as well.
And Irish, come on man, be consistent. If it was Khan doing this you would be giving him no end of shit.
