It's a natural... perfect style matchup... aggressive, pressure fighter who throws a lot of leather versus a classic stationary counterpuncher Lamotta wins rounds based on volume, Toney wins rounds on clean, sharp counters... it's apples and oranges, but I think Toney lands enough clean, eye-catching shots to win a clear unanimous decision in a fan-friendly fight... You have to protect the body against LaMotta, and I think Toney would be equal to the task for the most part. Good fight
Lamotta is an underrated defensive wizard by all accounts, nevertheless gimme Toney by decision or late stoppage.
no one ever said that ever but he was a tremendous fighter, you don't end up with his resume unless you are really fucking good... Furthermore, there is a tendency to underrate how close his fights with Robinson were... nobody gave Robinson hell the way he did (especially considering Ray was prime, pre-retirement)... If you give Robinson hell 5 times, and half of another time... you are a badass fighter, simple as that Toney is not fucking stopping a prime LaMotta, you jackass
Easy now on the insults you cunt! :: Toney's sharp counterpunching can indeed cause him to stop Lamotta. It's a styles thing. Sure Robinson hit harder than Toney and threw more punches..but I can see Toney stopping Lamotta in the manner in which he almost stopped the cruiserweight Jirov: Culmulative counterpunching effect on the brawling fighter.
you know how many great counterpunchers there were back then? where do you think Toney's style orginated? It's an OLD style LaMotta wasn't even floored until he was old, washed-up and undersized fighting LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS
Cool. I didn't see him getting floored but possibly stopped on his feet. But anyway, I'm leaning more to a decision in any event. You can argue about the stoppage or no stoppage for the rest of the day if you wish if that makes you feel good though....but I'm not arguing that point tobe honest with you.
James Toney, far from a one-shot guy, is going to knock out a guy that is on a short list of most difficult guys to hurt or stop in history
nobody else agrees with your ridiculous take Toney wins a competetive UD, but he doesn't have a chance of stoppinf LaMotta
