Wow, I hope they fired this guy. Can you believe this idiot picked Margarito over Cuevas, Trinidad, and ODLH? I can guess who he picked when Margarito was set to fight Mosley which was right around the time this article was written.

 

#2 & #1 are pretty ridiculous, but I think #5 has to be the most comical in that list. Pretty sad how ESPN/SI sportswriters generally know dick-all about boxing nowadays.

 

Graham Houston is actually pretty knowledgeable. More so than most other media guys Ive seen and heard at fights.

 

Also it shows historical knowledge has nothing to do with being able to analyze fights.

 

LMFAO @ Margarita beating Benitez, Tito, and DLH.

Even WITH loaded gloves, Benitez schools Phony, DLH stops him, and Tito sends him to his brother.

Also LMFAO @ Phony lasting the distance with Leonard. Ray would stop him within 9, in the most one sided fight ever.

 

Anyone who thinks Antonio Margarito would've beaten Wilfred Benitez, let alone considered him for ATG material, doesn't know their dick from their earlobe when it comes to boxing.

If I had a time machine, I'd put Phony in with the Palomino version of Duran.

Duran would give him the worst beating ever witnessed by man. Duran would enjoy it, and I'd enjoy it even more.

And after that..... I'd put Phony in with Julian Jackson.

 

I'd put Phony in with McCallum, at least that would go several torturous rounds.

Jackson would just spark him out early

Cuevas? Doubtful. Pipino hit too damn hard for someone as hittable as Phony.

DLH? Hell no! I hate Oscar every bit as much as you do. But the 97-00 Oscar wipes his ass Phony, and stops him. WAY too much firepower, and handspeed for Phony to handle.

Do you at least agree that Benitez schools him, and Tito slaughters him?

 

i would pick all the guys to beat margarito except the 3 i listed above. Delahoya would have a real hard fight against a prime margarito at welter. no way does he wipe his ass with the guy.

 

Prime Curry also beats the living shit outta Phony.

 

De La Hoya would probably stop Margarito before his stamina could even become an issue.

 

We'll have to disagree on that one. I think Marg is just way too slow, and hittable to fuck with a young Oscar.

Walking through Cotto's left hook is ENTIRELY different from walking through Oscar's hook.

Marg would never see Oscar's hook coming.

 

What about Mayorga and Forrest

 

Prime Quartey beats Marg. I know Neil will agree to that one.

 

Mayorga I'll give him. Though if its the 03 Mayorga, its not an easy fight for Marg AT ALL. But I think he wins.

I'd say that a Jose Luis Lopez that gave a damn (the one that slaughtered Campas) would stop Marg.

Lopez had the type of power, and accuracy that would spell huge trouble for Marg.

If Lopez smoked too many blunts though, Marg by UD.

Oba Carr was one of the most overrated fighters of the 90's.

 

This goes without saying but..... Phony got wiped out by a washed up Mosley.

The 00-01 Mosley would have treated him like Antonio Diaz.

What about Sweet Pea and Vargass? I got both of those guys beating Margarito too.

By the way I also agree Oscar was too good to lose to a mediocre guy like Margarito. On paper yeah, you look at styles and think Margarito could give Oscar trouble, and even though Oscar may have been a bit overrated in terms of talent and even skills to an extent, when it came to winning fights the guy just knew how to do it (and no I'm not talking about favorable judges either). I couldn't see someone as average as Margarito beating Oscar.

 

Pea and Vargas both beat Phony.

Prime Oscar was NOT Cotto.
