    I really like Dawson.

I don't think Cleverly or Tony Bellend should go near him.

    Not yet anyways.

Nathan should stick to collecting velvet smoking jackets.....as for Beau Bellew, well, I think a job on the door of the Grafton awaits.

I'd be somewhat surprised if there was a rematch. ESPN reported the gate at $300,000 and PPV sales less than 100,000. Hopkins and Dawson made $1 million and $800,000 respectfully which means the fight lost money.

Unless both guys are willing to accept far less money and fight as an undercard fight I can't see how this fight gets made.

Toss in Hershman taking over HBO in January and Golden Showers deal with HBO running out at the end of the year, the likelihood of the rematch quickly dwindles...at least at the prices spent on the original.

All of this puts Pascal in a better position (in my opinion). He has a draw and a fanbase. It might take him deciding who he gets next to provide a decent payday for either guy. It's clear neither Dawson nor Hopkins have any semblance of a fanbase to warrant or suppport the payday's they received.

As far as I'm concerned, the only foul committed was by Hopkins - Dawson just brushed him off his back, which he had every right to.

    Boooo!

So when Bernard rushed in and practically jumped on Dawson's back, that wasn't intentional. If you're going to blame one, be fair and blame both.

agREED. Throw in Bernards history of this crap and there you have it. Ironically, it pretty much leaves Bernard and Golden Boy up the old Swanee without a paddle.

No Dawson Re, already "fought" Pascal twice, nothing doing at 168 just yet...Bute ain't interested......:dunno:

I wonder how able Pascal would be to drop back to 168. There would be more attractive match ups for him there than rematches with either of these bores.

The controversy will make the rematch bigger than the first fight, but it's still no ppv fight and never was. What it is now and what it should have been for the first fight is an HBO main event fight. When you shell out $60, you want more than an intriguing matchup, you want the potential for something exciting to happen. That's unlikely for a Dawson fight. It's unlikely for a Hopkins fight. And it sure as hell doesn't seem (and didn't seem) like their styles will synergize into something more than the sum of the parts.

I agree with everything here except the first assertion - I'm not certain the farce of that ending will have piqued anybody's interest.

I wanna see Cloud given a shot against Dawson, Hopkins or Pascal. I like him to beat them all, and at the very least he'll make for better fights than any return matches between that trio.

Oh dont get me wrong I think Hopkins is a legend, his ring IQ is unparallel.

I don't know if Cloud beats any of the three but he sure as hell would try.

If he lost it would be a case of any of the three finding success in NOT engaging him vs winning a firefight.

    Dont worry about Hopkins.

Maybe projecting, but I have a feeling that the public are pretty much done with paying to see Hopkins now.

    I'd agree with this.

Sometimes I think mike says things for the sake of saying them. The fight was poorly attended and the ppv was shunned. In addition, those who saw were disappointed in an outcome that exceeded low expectations.

Roll that up and Mike somehow finds a formula that computes a greater interest in a fight no one wanted to see.

Not only does that not make business sense it doesn't make common sense.

Absolutely. REED calls mike a Bullshit Contrarian Artist and that is a perfect description.

agREED. As for me...years ago I really looked forward to seeing Hopkins fight, but now I wish he would just go away.

Agreed again, even if he is competitive and can win some fights, he is rendering them virtually unwatchable and is eating up dates in the yearly boxing schedule. Besides, I think Dawson was on his way to giving him a fierce beating, and yet, i'm not sue it will even help dawson much to have it confirmed in a rematch..roll on cloud vs dawson, cleverly vs dawson, cloud vs shumenov, cloud vs henry, cleverly vs paschal, dawson vs erdei...

Completely. I'm quite the pessimist, especially with Hopkins fights but even my low expectations were exceeded.

    No easy task.

If there is a rematch to make up for it they should have a thrilling undercard bout like Winky Wright vs Arthur Abraham.

I don't think you read my post. Pascal's Wager wasn't disagreeing with my post and if he was, it's because he didn't read it correctly. I think he was just expanding upon it.

If you think controversy in a first fight can't help sell a 2nd fight, I think history shows you are usually wrong.

I didn't pay for the fight and wouldn't pay for the rematch, but if you think I wouldn't look forward to seeing the rematch on HBO, you would be greatly mistaken. I suspect others would look forward to it, as well, in significant part because of how their first fight went down.

Just watching the fight again now.......Dawson was forcing Bernard to move a lot and was clearly getting the better of the limited exchanges, and was not being bullied by Bernard in the clinches. Bernard looked for a way out and got it.

I thought the same thing when I watched it. (Although I've only watched it once). I did get the impression that Hops was on his way to getting beat up.

However the injury may be legit by some accounts.

    I do hope there's a rematch & Hop's gets uncontroversially KTFO.
Then hopefully he will never get a title shot again.
