Donaire vs Narvaez this weekend

Donaire is taking on Narvaez this weekend. I haven't seen much of Narvaez, just clips. He looks fast, has good hand speed, but really that's all I gathered from him. He gets hit and is naturally smaller than Donaire. I can't see him lasting more than 6 rounds tbh. Donaire will be his toughest opponent to date I gather.

    What ya'll think?

I think you have to go with Donaire fairly easily over all these smaller guys.

Yea, I think this will be his last fight at 118. Narvaez has only been in with 'B' and 'C' opponents apparently, so this should be fairly straight forward for Nonito.

It's not that I think Narvaez is a bad fighter - he's not. Donaire is just that good right now.

Yup. I've seen a bit more of Narvaez today and he's not all bad, just not on the same level as Nonito.

They were both longtime flyweights, but I agree that Narvaez is far more of a natural flyweight and Donaire grew out of the weight class.

Narvaez move up 3 lbs to junior bantam didn't hurt him at all. He's had some of his best performances recently at that weight.

Narvaez isn't really that fast, but he is accurate, has excellent timing and movement, and wins exchanges by leading and finishing. He doesn't look like Holyfield at all, but if you watch cruiserweight Holyfield, he did the same thing with re to leading and finishing exchanges.

I think Narvaez is a better boxer than Donaire. I think that if Narvaez can take Donaire's power, he will be ahead in the fight and if it goes the distance, Narvaez will deserve the decision.

Donaire...I suspect he is overrated right now. HBO has gotten the lickfest going hard for him and that always skews public perception.

Anyone want to take my money? I'll take Narvaez at 14/1 all day

lol at mikE, there's no end to the shit he comes up with.

For starters he won't be able to take Donaire's power, he'll get KO'd in 4 or 5 rounds, but if by some freakish chance he can take Nonito's power, he'll lose a very lopsided decision. He's not even close to being as good a boxer as Donaire, and Donaire is going to make him look slow.

So you would like to put up money at 14-1, a split between the going odds? say your 280 to my 20?

I believe the odds are way off of what they should be. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I'm willing to back it up. Are you willing to call me on my 'shit'?

Saying Narvaez is better is different than saying you don't think he's 14 times worse.

You'd have to be pretty stunned to bet on 14-1 favourite in a boxing match.

    his last fight, against Montiel

what the fuck does that have to do with anything?

Donaire's one of those fighters, like Pacquiao, who is just plain good, whether HBO is licking his balls or not.

No one is saying he isn't good.

But is HBO licking his balls hard? Does HBO affect public perception?

    a SHITTY answer, twat

you stated that Donaire is only highly thought of because HBO is "licking" him... then you posted a list where the greatest number of fights were on fucking Showtime

Donaire is highly thought of because he has been enormously impressive IN THE RING

sure, for everyone except you and Double L, apparently

  25. Double L

Yes. HBO is licking his balls. And yes, HBO affects public perception, big time.

My only point is, this isn't the best example to demonstrate it because Donaire has fought on a lot of different networks, and has faced top competition. His rise to stardom hasn't been Bertoesque. He hasn't been coddled along a la Taylor, Berto, Chavez Jr. - he's not an HBO creation.

But yeah. HBO kisses his ass nontheless and affects public opinion in doing so.

Basically, I agree with everything you are saying.

I suspect, but don't know for sure, that Donaire is overrated at p4p #3. I suspect and am more confident that Narvaez is underrated at p4p #nothing. I think Narvaez has a chance to beat Donaire and I'm willing to back it up.

And if Donaire treats Narvaez like he did Montiel, then I'll have far less of an issue with Donaire at p4p #3.

Anyone know, prior to HBO signing Donaire, was he bragged up by the HBO crew or did they slip JMM in that spot?

  28. Double L

    Double L Book Reader

He was well regarded even prior to his facing Montiel, having beaten some other top guys and by knock-out for the most part.

It's been a long-standing question whether his mgmt knows wtf it's doing, because he seemed to sit on his win over Vic, but he's since managed to restore his relevance, even prior to beating Montiel. Although, it is telling that many picked Montiel, but then again, Montiel, having beaten that Japanese champ (forget his name) was creeping up people's list too.

Obviously, HBO helps get the message out when a fighter is good. And that's basically what's happened in Donaire's case. But HBO did not create him. Rather, he's for real. And given that's the case, his mgmt deserves some credit afterall.
