:scratcher: I'll say this in terms of make you miss and make you pay: best utlization of the tiny counterpunch window...Floyd is as good as anyone in history. If by "quick handed" you mean this...I agree with you. In terms of rattling off combinations/flurries...he's way down the list of course. Even guys like Diego Corrales were faster than him in this regard. It shows that blazing hanspeed, in and of itself, is overrated. Utlizing the counterpunch window is far more effective in a fight.
Anyway, Floyd will stop Taylor eventually methinks. Taylor was too easy to hit and Floyd's accuracy is ridiculous. It's bound to take it's toll eventually.
No. It's a fact. Corrales' ability to string together combinations at high speed was better than Floyd's. Fact! Don't look at Mayweather-Corrales and assume from that fight that Corrales had no handspeed. The fact is...Diego had to be set to punch and Floyd kept moving and this made diego look slow. He WAS slow...but not in terms of handspeed. Look at some of the combinations Diego exploded on a stationary target like Castillo in their first fight. Floyd has never had the ability quite as good as that.
Chico had quick hands, but no. To say his hands were faster/quicker than Floyd's is just retarded. When Floyd let go combinations, he might not have been RJ or Leonard fast, but he was a HELLUVA faster than Corrales.
Put two videos of them exploding combinations side by side and you'll see what I mean. Corrales is a slugger and Floyd is a cutsy boxer. By virtue of this people will default to the "floyd has faster hands" position. Chico's combinations were ridiculous.
Thats bullshit! Tyson was a slugger with insanely fast hands. You make it seem as if Chico's handspeed was on that level. Corrales had very quick hands. I ALWAYS said that. But as quick as Floyd's? No! Just no!
let's be real here... handspeed is pretty difficult to measure... everybody states all of this stuff like it's fact, but it is all just basically an opinion. For every guy that will say JONES!, you will get another guy that says TAYLOR! and a third guy will chime in with CAMACHO! and every once in a while HOWARD DAVIS! ... the fact is that nobody KNOWS Beside all that, it's an overrated attribute to begin with... timing and speed are not the same thing... Timing is crucial... speed is nice, but if you don't have other attributes of boxing intelligence to go along with it, it's no different than being a guy with crushing power and a bunch of C minuses in every other category
Same can be said with any "category" though. Power, chin, stamina and even to a degree timing which is not only intelligence, but in part reflexes. Obviously if a guy doesn't know how to box whatsoever it won't matter if he ranks a '10' in every category if they're up against a good experienced fighter. However all things being relatively equal, hand speed is almost always the most difficult thing for fighters to contend with.
You're preaching to the choir. I've said as much already in this thread. Handspeed by itself isn't that helpful. Ask Zab judah.
The fact that Xplosive is 100% convinced that Floyd had faster hands than Chico proves that timing/reflexes is far more effective and impressive than just blazing hands.
Floyd IMO is extremely *fast, and pacman and Taylor are fast but in very different ways.* Some guys can flail away with blinding speed, pacman and Taylor both had extremely fast hands in this way But guys like Floyd and even pea in his day, have IMO a even more amazing speed and that is a mental speed and timing speed, they know when you are going to throw and when to throw to counter it and the timing is amazing Floyd is one of the best of all time at this I think.*
word. That is the most amazing speed and it is obviously the most effective. It makes him appear to actually have faster hands than speedier opponents. What made a Prime Roy Jones so great is that he had this type of speed PLUS ridiculous handspeed. Very few have both.
