Duran vs Pacquiao at 147lbs

Discussion in 'Mythical Matchups' started by Destruction and Mayhem, Oct 25, 2011.

  1. I know we've done this before but I can't remember the discussion.

Anyway, Pacquiao W12 or W15. No matter.

Whether or not we think that Pacquiao is as good a Welterweight as Leonard is irrelevant. This fight would be a war. Pacquiao has a proven solid chin (when was the last time he was legitimately dropped?), power, ridiculous handspeed and stamina which at the very least..matches that of Duran. Plus he's a southpaw.

Pac. Hand speed and accuracy being the deciding factors

Duran beats his ass down stretch and wins by UD in a 12 rounder.

    In a 15 rounder, Duran TKO 13-14.

It should be a 15 rounder, but I don't see that that counts against Pac at all, who's got great stamina.

I go with Duran on the default basis of him being so much better than any welterweight Pac has ever fought it isn't even funny. We'll know allot more if Pac ever fights Floyd......the Marquez fight will also answer a couple of questions, in terms of his technical development (or otherwise).

Pacquiao gets stronger, relative to his opponents, the longer the fight lasts. Same result over 12 or 15. Haven't yet seen him vulnerable to punches.

Duran via UD in a 12 rounder. In a 15 rounder he stops him in 14. Too much skill and smarts for Pacquiao.

It would be one helluva fight, though.

Duran fought on pretty much even terms with MIDDLEWEIGHT Marvin Hagler. I don't think there's a question of strength, skill or will on Duran's end.

  15. Agreed. Duran has strength, skill and will...but Pacquiao has the same plus SPEED...frightening speed and from a southpaw stance. It makes the difference IMO. Duran, IMO isn't much larger than Pacquiao naturally.

As amazing as Pacquiao is at 147, part of the amazement is that he is a 5'5 natural featherweight.

Duran (at his best) is a better welterweight than Pacquiao, and wouldn't be at as much of a speed deficit as the bigger guys Manny has plastered.

    Duran on points.

I think Duran would mostly outsmart Pacquiao the way Marquez was able to do in spots.

Duran isn't much bigger than him, but he has more skills and he would hit Pacquiao hard enough to keep him honest. And he wouldn't make the mistakes Cotto made.

Duran's quick straight right would really give Pacquiao hell. Its one helluva fight. But Manos de Piedra is too much the complete package for Pacquiao IMO.

Probably Duran. I'd like to point out, however, that Duran would not have been nearly as dominant as Pacquiao has between Oscar and Mosley.

Nah, Duran has at least two or three "bad nights" during that span. Maybe even loses a decision to someone like Clottey if he's not up for it.

That's because Duran would have fought them in their prime vs catching both at the end of their careers.

Duran went of the rails after New orleans at 154, not 147. Canadadadadadada!

That's my point, he wouldn't have given a crap six fights in a row like that

  30. Hut*Hut

    Hut*Hut The Mackintosh of temazepam

He gave a crap about 72 fights in a row before the clown ring fiasco.
