BoxingScene.com can confirm that Frankie Gavin has withdrawn from tomorrow night’s WBO Intercontinental welterweighttitle defence against France’s Frank Haroch Horta. The bout was due to take place at Salford’s Bowlers Exhibition Centre and was to be carried by BoxNation. It was to be Gavin’s first outing under his new training team of Jimmy and Mark Tibbs only for Frankie to walk away from the bout citing personal reasons.

Frank Warren confirmed the news when speaking to boxingnewsonline.net earlier today. “He’s just gone. I heard he went to [former trainer] Anthony Farnell’s house. I’m sick and tired of it. I wouldn’t even talk him into fighting because if I did and something happened it would be my fault,†said Warren.

Ireland’s Dean Byrne, who made his UK debut when beating Michael Frontin last Friday night, will step into Gavin’s shoes and is expected to take on Horta in the show’s new headline act. The 15-0 (6) Irishman looked to have shed some rust in his eight round decision win over Frontin and will be chomping at the bit after waiting for months to make his FWP debut.

Such a shame Gavin's career has stalled in certain aspects. I enjoy watching him, but needs to fight more regularly.

Gavin is the most talented fighter in England for years, but he's not dedicated and is going to become a bum pretty soon at this rate.

I pretty much see a ruined career to be honest, IF Gavin continues to play act, or whatever it is that he is doing. I'm still hoping he gets his act together and can get back in the ring and improve and aim for a British title and progress his career.

You know what, I was just thinking, maybe due to all his ''theatrics'' outside the ring, or whatever it is he is doing that's pissing people off, he wasn't concentrating or putting in 100% in training and it came to show vs Woodhouse?

It doesn't matter, it's Curtis fucking Woodhouse man . An amateur world champ should be able to beat an ex-footballer with ease after just stepping out of McDonalds.

    Curtis Woodhouse

Imagine if Felix Savon had turned pro and scraped a split decision over Rio Ferdinand

Woodhouse was a fight that Frankie didn't take seriously and was made to work extra hard for the win. At the end of the day, he still won.

Keep the faith, you hos. Keep the faith.

I agree with the sentiment, but there is precedent...see Ottke vs Mundine.

Not all that familiar with how good Gavin is, but you guys are describing the UK version of the USA's Ricardo Williams Jr.

Same idea pretty much, Gavin probably a bit more talented, less reliant on athleticism and more reliant on boxing skills. Williams was twisted by a $1m signing on bonus, and got fat after that.
