I remember when Mike Tyson was killing everyone and I believe, Boxing Illustrated had an art drawn picture of Mike Tyson's face and a shadowy looking 12 year old in the bottom corner of the page that said something to the affect of, "When I get older, I'm going to beat Mike Tyson".

Of course, it was depicting how dominant Mike was and how his first loss was going to come from someone who was not even boxing professionally at the time. Who ever had the chance must have been a kid with big dreams.

I never forgot the jist of that cover. Any others?

There will never be another Mike Tyson. He brought so much excitement to the game it's unreal.

Can't say any really stand out from my time buying boxing mags. The only one which comes to mind is the one of Jones & Tito on the cover saying 'superfight or mismatch' or something and it was a picture of Jones looking like a hulking adonis and of Tito looking like he just built a frontier railway on a ration of one buttered slice and a glass of rum.

Yes it was....I also loved Toney's comment during the post-fight interview...when he saw the replay he says, "London Bridge is fallin' down baby!"

Always thought this was a great photo...it's like William's legs didn't want to fall but his upper body had given up.

That said I like they way they hedge their bets, making out that this was all Michael Grants work and his work alone.

Normally, its...."Mike Tyson Can Devastate Eastern Europe, by Ron Borges, pictures by steve_dave" at least here they try to pass the blame onto Grant himself.

The Ring cover (I think this was before a boxing promotion bought the magazine and rendered it utterly uncredible) featuring Trinidad following either his voctory over Vargas or Joppy, in which he wore a crimson cape with a hood. I thought he looked super cool, like some sort of comic-book super hero.

Yeah I mind that. Was it not the fight poster for one of his fights rather than a mag though?

It was definitely a cover. I think he was standing there, with a white back-ground. It was very dramatic.

i forget what magazine it was called, but it wasn't the ring. it may have been called world boxing or something. it's from the 90s and had pernell whitaker on the cover and got it autographed by pernell himself when i saw him a few years back. its title read something like best ever or most overrated. i picked it up at a fleat market years ago before i got it signed.
