    [IMG]Get ready for some mean-mugging.

As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported Sunday night, Donald Cerrone (17-3 MMA 4-0 UFC) and Nate Diaz (14-7 MMA, 9-5 UFC) will meet at December's UFC 141 event.

UFC brass today announced the contest and confirmed that the intriguing matchup will take the card's co-main-event slot.

Featuring a heavyweight matchup between former UFC champ Brock Lesnar and former Strikeforce titleholder Alistair Overeem, UFC 141 takes place Dec. 30 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Cerrone is fresh off a sweeping victory over top prospect Dennis Siver at this past weekend's UFC 137 event. After rocking the German on two occasions with head kicks, "Cowboy" cinched a rear-naked choke that brought the tapout at the midway point of round one. The victory, which earned him a $75,000 "Submission of the Night" bonus, was his sixth straight, all of which have come in the past 13 months.

Diaz, meanwhile, emerged from a two-fight skid in his most recent performance and picked up significant momentum with a first-round submission victory over Takanori Gomi at UFC 135. It was his first fight as a lightweight since he squared off with Gray Maynard at UFC Fight Night 23, after which he served a 2-2 stint as a welterweight.

The latest UFC 141 card now includes:
    • Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem
    • Donald Cerrone vs. Nate Diaz
    • Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks
    • Alexander Gustafsson vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
    • Dong Hyun Kim vs. Sean Pierson
    • T.J. Grant vs. Jacob Volkmann

That's a great fight. I was saying recently that Nate has never really lost to any one other than good wrestlers in his post TUF days at 155.

Cerrone is a well-rounded guy but I don't think his wrestling is strong enough to get Nate on his back consistently. So it will end up being Cerrone's solid Muay Thai versus Nate's unorthodox boxing.

Personally I like Nate in this one. As good as Cerrone is, Nate's boxing is a lot like his brothers in the sense that it is far more effective than it looks.

    Nevertheless, I love the fight.

I like Diaz in this one, but I'm not sure I like him that much.

But what the hell. I'll do it. It was only 18 months ago that Cerrone was tapped out by Ben Henderson and Nate's BJJ shits on Henderson's.

So yeah, let's do it. It's close but I'll roll the dice.

Co-main event status with Brock Lesnar vs Alistair Overeem???

Gimme a fucking break. One matchup might be lead to the highest-grossing mma ppv of the year. The other matchup is barely a UFC on Vs headliner.

    :wack:

Well, you kind of made you're own point. With a Main Event like Lesnar-Overeem you can have a 2nd tier co main event like Cerrone-Diaz.

In other words, it doesn't take much to support a Lesnar fight. Period.

Will Nate be able to handle the weight ok? I thought he would struggle to make lightweight again.

What a joke of a co main event. Co main event = Bj Penn vs Nick Diaz. Co Main Event means if the main event falls through the co is strong enough to carry the show. Can you see this fight carrying the show ? Nope. Hence crap co main event .

UFC produce so many ppv events that they have to water-down their cards.

Don't be such a dolt. I have no idea all the other fights will be on this card yet. If it's a shitty card, I'll call it a shitty card.

Sometimes the UFC has stacked cards and sometimes they have a Rampage-Hamill main event. In either case I'll call it like I see it.

UFC 141 with Lesnar-Overeem might end up having 3 or 4 other great supporting fights. Personally I haven't seen the complete card announced so I will withhold my opinion until I have some facts unlike your ridiculous ass.

But while we're at it, I love the matchup of Fitch and Hendricks. Two great wrestlers with cast iron chins. This should be one of those fights were Fitch is forced to stand and could be fun.

Gustafson-Matyushenko should be fireworks. Both guys are coming off of huge KO wins in fights were they were underdogs. Gustafson basically retired Matt Hamill.

There are still fights to be added but right now this about an average card with a very strong and fan-popular main event.

But it also bears mentioning that the UFC has 2 PPV's in December. UFC 140 on December 10 headlined by Machida-Jones is an amazing card. So I'll give them a pass on 141 being average. I'm just glad they got Overeem-Lesnar back in the cage before the end of the year.

This is true. And they have fighters that need fights. This is why they hae so many preliminaries. But this fight is not set yet. All those fights could be on facebook for all we know.

I think Nate Diaz is the reason this fight gets such a high placing. Cerrone just blasted out Siver as a Facebook prelim fight, but MAN did he fuck him up with those high kicks. The Cerrone-Siver fight deserved to be on the main card.

I don't think it deserves co-main event status, but it's a main card fight for sure.

They Don't "Have" to...MMA is Such that they Can AFFORD to Water Down their Cards...BIG Difference...

It's Similar to How Boxing was, 1nce Upon a Time...REED Recalls Seeing Hagler-Autofermo AND Leonard-Benitez on the SAME ABC TELECAST, on FREE (Non-Subscription) Television...But Along Came PPV & Cable T.V., which ENABLED Boxing Promoters to Water Down their Cards

There's NO Guarantee that Something Won't Eventually Surface in MMA, which Waters Down UFC Cards...
