Even prior to prison, I'd have picked Angulo to kill him. People act as if Kirkland is Tyson. Like he was an awesome fighter who was never the same after prison. He was never that good to begin with. Angulo isnt elite himself, but he's better than Kirkland in every single facet of boxing, except for maybe handspeed. Its gonna be a war, and with Angulo being the bigger puncher, with the better technique and chin, I dont see how Kirkland wins that war. But hey, if Kirkland WERE to win..... we've seen much stranger things happen. I could care less who wins, I just hope its the brutal war we all expect. It'd actually be nice if Kirkland DID win. The only thing better than a war, is a war with an UPSET.
Kirkland's defense and chin were always shit, I agree. Kirkland is just a big strong puncher who comes out looking to KO and because of that he brings excitement, but he's nothing close to elite. I don't think he could beat any of the likes of Lara, Zinziruk, Cotto, or Canelo. Maybe he could beat P-Will now but a prime Williams would beat him. Angulo lost to Cintron, but Cintron is a much better boxer than Kirkland, even if he is a bitch. Lol Angulo has the better chin, better power, and as you said, punches straighter, shorter, with better technique and accuracy. Easy fight for Angulo IMO.
Kirkland by TKO 9 or 10...Angulo has fought 1 round in two years and is slow as HELL and has an easy to hit big ass DOME and a soft body. Kirkland is going to destroy this fool.
Wouldn't be shocked at this. I don't know shit about Kirkland but Barristan is right. Last time I saw Angulo he looked horribly slow even though he won the fight.
Kirkland's chin will come into play during this fight. I'm not too sure how much he's improved since Ishida.
You think Kirkland's shit chin and shit defense will last that long???:scratcher: Kirkland can win if he overwhelms Angulo early and gets him outta there. The longer the fight goes the better for Angulo but I don't think he'll need that long anyway. Even pre-prison Kirkland has been wobbled and knocked down against lesser punchers than Angulo. He's getting iced on Saturday night.
No way am I picking Kirkland, but I'm not counting him out either. My man Jake wrote a nice piece on boxingscene about Kirkland and Wolfe. That, and as someone pointed out, Angulo has only fought two rounds in the last couple years. Give me Angulo. Probably big. I'm not, however, going to totally count Kirkland out until he fails with what worked for him.
why thank you sir. My official pick is Angulo KO3. Matchups like this, I generally go with the guy that has the better chin and that's Angulo by a mile. Not a matter of who lands first because both will land at will. Kirkland SOUNDS like a new man and I believe what he has to say about the weight, training and all that. But it's not like his last fight was some drawn out affair where he was taken into deep waters. He was dropped less than 30 seconds into the fight by a pillow-fisted fighter - his only "real" opponent since coming back earlier this year. The one thing that I will say on this fight is that it NEEDS to end inside of six rounds. The longer this fight lasts, the sloppier and ugly it will get.
And even if Kirkland can somehow stand up to whatever Angulo is dishing, I get the impression that Angulo will still be winning the rounds. Good call on the last bit... this'll probably only be exciting early.
If Kirlkland could/would just move a bit, jab/right hand combo like Cintron did then his chances would improve. But if he comes out his usual AnnWolfe search and destroy mode...he will get flatten early and brutally.
And I don't think Kirkland knows how to fight any other way. All he knows is to go out and search and destroy, walk through any punches he has to. No jab, no head movement, wide telegraphed punches, etc. He's a disaster.
