REED ISN'T Calling Merchant a Racist...

REED Knows & Likes Plenty of White Guys that DON'T Necessarily Care for Hip Hop Culture &/or Music...NONE of them R Racist...Having Said That, NONE Of those Guys would Use a Platform like an HBO Telecast to Exhibit their DISDAIN for Hip Hop (or Other Cultures) Either...

    Merchant's an ASSHOLE...

The fight took place in 1990. Still a long time ago, but he was pretty enthusiastic in the run-in to Trinidad-Vargas.

Oh I see. Yeah, he probably shouldn't do stuff like that, and it really has nothing to do with boxing.

I guess people are overreacting calling him racist though, if it's based on his dislike of hip hop culture etc.

I personally don't care for hip hop music, or the culture that surrounds it, gangsta rap and all that. I'm not close to being racist though. Apart from with sand monkeys, but that goes without saying obviously.

  5. Personally...I LOVE Hip Hop music and HATE "Hip Hop culture".

I hate to see these idiots all blinged out with their cornrows shouting "yeeeah!" and jestering with their index and middle fingers while switching between licking and pouting their lips and then performing an exaggerrated crossarms pose with their heads tilted to one side...and then saying someone like "UH HUH...we keepin' it real".

    Fuck those fags!

    Great music though...

I hate what hip hop culture has become. As cited in your post, it's become synonymous with everything that is perceived to be wrong w/ hip hop today.

but that's only become the case in this generation. Then again, I'm sure people looked at "our" generation and probably thought the same thing. But back in the day, hip hop was an outlet away from "thug life." Then came gangsta rap, which paved the way for studio gangstas, which paved the way for a lot of the nonsense now stereotyped as the way hip hop is today.

But anyway, REED is dead on with his assessment. Though in Merchant's defense, there are plenty in the industry who view the world the exact same way. As great of a promoter as he is, Bob Arum has made it clear that he can't relate to that world, or the fighters within it. Same for Golden Boy, who seems genuinely clueless how to promote any promoter not tied to Mexican culture.

It kills me that people are portraying Merchant as the hard-hitting and fair interviewer who asks hard questions. This is the same idiot who let Victor Ortiz off the hook when Ortiz claimed his headbutt was accidental.

He is awful that is why. I am surprised that people think because he knows trivia he knows anything. Max knows nothing about boxing. I mean nothing.

It is you are jealous. I am not. To be fair, Lampley has never been in the ring either. He knows nothing about the technical part of the sport. He just makes comments like this fight is like Dempsey versus Hobo Magee. Just a Jedi mind trick. I also don't think enthusiasm is good either. Boxing blows and is dead. Merchant is at least honest. I also commend him for his disdain of the cancerous hip hop culture and the ineptitude of Mexican music.
