During his run of dismantling everyone, he has fought more controlled and less reckless. This plays right into the hands of Marquez. It wasn't that he was slower, Marquez was just on point and fought defensive. The Manny of the Hatton/DLH/etc. would look the exact same. Cotto, Hatton, Margarito...none of them have good defense. Pacquiao has never had the style to deal with a defensive boxer.
clearly pacquiao is well past his prime. mayweather jr. would have stood no chance against this animale years ago!
word. People never seem to realize this. Pacquiao loos like a killer against guys that are there to be hit. A cagey counterpunching wizard suddenly makes him appear mediocre.
Manny wasn't at the races. Why? because marquez never really aloud him to get a foot hold in the fight. Marquez landed the cleaner, better shots throughout, IMO. His counter punching was tremendous and made Pac anxious and miss a great deal.
i wouldnt say outright he would lose to a defensive fighter, but the "slick black fighter" test was never taken by pacquiao (mostly due to him being in a low weight class) defensive experts (which are rare, especially nowadays) have a funny way of making the most dynamic fighter look average. i maintain that pacquiao is among the all time great fighters in history, but still...guys who dominate due to their rhythm (pacquiao, duran, etc.) will always find great trouble when in with a stinker, whos gameplan is to take them off rhythm regardless of how boring it may be. for this reason i have always maintained that pacquiao will have great problems with the first slickster he gets in with. was hoping he would bowl over marquez so the fight odds would be even when it came time for mayweather pacquiao.
oh yeah, i bet a couple hundred on mayweather to KO hatton and it was 5 to 1. i was thinking this fight which i see as a 3-1 would be even money. not anymore.
The 2 main keys to beating Pacquiao: Let him come to you. Disrupt his combinations with a counter shot on the first punch he throws. Also Pac has a bad habit of being too defensive after being counter punched. Nearly everytime Marquez countered his punch Manny would cover up and retreat back a couple steps. He'd rarly just take the punch and fight through it. It seems like a bad habit and something they should have fixed a while back.
If you can't see he looked much slower against Mosley and Marquez than Hatton for example, you're blind.
more excuses from you, shirt. pacquiao looked pretty fuckin fast in training. bottom line is. he looks slower because he was facing a guy who knows how to fight, who has great timing and knows how to dictate range.
Neil, he looked almost as slow against Mosley, these aren't excuses, you've noticed the same fucking thing :: Against Hatton, who is faster than Marquez, Manny's straight left was so quick you could hardly see it. Last night the velocity of that left cross was nothing special at all, and there was barely a combo in sight. And his trademark super quick feet and lateral movement were absent too.
And this is simply an observation rather than excuses. Marquez isn't exactly prime either. This is something I said after the Mosley fight, as did quite a few other people.
I broadly agree. While Pac may have lost a touch of speed, JMM just controlled distance so well it was unreal, Pac was hitting air a lot of the time. It's a rhythm thing - JMM's timing, footwork and rhythm was such that it threw Manny off - at stages he looked tentative coming in too because he was worried about those sharp counters. Never got in a groove. Couldn't close distance effectively.
It's somewhere in between. Even if Manny hadn't slipped at all, Marquez would still give him hell, just has an awesome style to counter Pacquiao. In fact let's pretend that the Pacquiao that iced Hatton would struggle just as much - the fact remains that Manny is finally starting to slow down significantly. Handspeed/footspeed/trigger speed/combo speed/lateral movement all pretty diminished since the Hatton and Cotto fights. To be honest I think he should beat Bradley then retire. His whole style is predicated on speed and agility, now that's fading, he's not suddenly going to become a defensive wizard like Floyd or Hopkins. He won't be half the fighter he was before - I even think much of his power was due to the sheer velocity of his shots, so unlike someone like Foreman, he won't even keep his punch that much.
He looked slower against Mosley too you fucking mooks :: And Mosley did nothing, had no timing or range or anything. Pacquiao has simply slowed down. Why is this hard to believe for you Flomos? Floyd had started to become noticeably slower by about the age of 31. Pacquiao is almost 33.
