Fighting attributes (should be a fun exercize)

Discussion in 'General Boxing Discussion' started by Destruction and Mayhem, Nov 16, 2011.

  1. Defense (Blocking and/or upperbody reflexes)
    Movement (footspeed, intelligent footwork)
    Stamina
    Chin
    Power
    handspeed
    Counterpunching Reflexes
Adaptability (ability to change strategy and tactics)
    Recuperative ability
height and reach (I've combined them, because they work together)
    Ring Generalship
    Offensive Repertoire
    Heart

This list covers all attributes that separate fighters from each other in terms of who beats who ability. How styles mesh together, mentality on fight night etc are under intangibles and so not included. However these intangibles can also effect an outcome, but they can't be properly measured and so they are left as X factors.

Based on the above list, however, let's compare any two fighters against each other and see who wins the most categories...suggesting which one is in fact the better fighter potentially (minus the x factors)

If you think I have a Mayweather agenda with this thread..you are in fact correct this time.

Forgive me also it it reminds you of a Double L thread.

    I'll start:

    Chris Eubank vs Nigel Benn

Defense (Blocking and/or upperbody reflexes) - EUBANK
Movement (footspeed, intelligent footwork) - EUBANK
    Stamina - IMMATERIAL DIFERENCE
    Chin - EUBANK
    Power - BENN
    handspeed - BENN
    Counterpunching Reflexes - EUBANK
Adaptability (ability to change strategy and tactics) - EUBANK
    Recuperative ability - EUBANK
height and reach (I've combined them, because they work together) - IMMATERIAL DIFERENCE
    Ring Generalship - EUBANK
    Offensive Repertoire - IMMATERIAL DIFFERENCE
    Heart - IMMATERIAL DIFFERENCE

Final score: EUBANK 7, BENN 2, TIE 4

    Winner Eubank!!

D&Ds attribute counter makes him the more ABLE fighter.

    Please add yours.

How dare you refer to my threads, as if this one holds a candle to any of them.

This is an interesting exercise, but it should be pointed out that assigning things like power binary values (better or worse) is a gross over-simplification, which is fine, but along with weighting each element equally, it results in conclusions that are nearly irrelevant to the probable outcome of a match-up.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the exercise is pointless. I'm just saying it has very little to do with who wins in a match-up.

  6. Only thing missing is the intangible x factors...other than that it's a rather scientific way of measuring who's better than who.

    Duran Hearns

Defense (Blocking and/or upperbody reflexes) - IMMATERIAL
Movement (footspeed, intelligent footwork) - Hearns
    Stamina - Duran
    Chin - Duran
    Power - Hearns
    handspeed - Hearns
    Counterpunching Reflexes - Hearns
Adaptability (ability to change strategy and tactics) - IMMATERIAL
    Recuperative ability - Duran
height and reach (I've combined them, because they work together) - Hearns
    Ring Generalship - Hearns
    Offensive Repertoire - Duran
    Heart - IMMATERIAL

Final Score: Hearns 6, Duran 4, Tie 3

Winner Hearns. He's more ABLE than Duran (hence head to head he butchered him)

If peope use my system before placing bets they will make more money.

In any event, as soon as I saw that you responded I knew you didn't play the game but just added a smilie or a silly comment.

Come on dude..participate without tongue in cheek humour for once. Just once I beg you. Be serious just once.

    JUST ONCE!

    I'd prefer these variables:

    defense:
    versatility:
    chin :
    speed :
    control of range :
    unreadability (difficulty to neutralize) :
    power :
    stamina :

As Double alluded to, I think they should be given a score of 10, than added up.

Assigning boolean values is too simple, for example one guy might have a SLIGHT edge in 5 categories, and the other guy might have a MASSIVE advantage in 4, your silly list would have the guy with slight advantages as the overall winner, when it would be far from the truth.

It's an interesting idea, but a proper score is definitely a better implementation, like Hut just did.

That's a pretty good list, though IMO Pac is more unpredictable than Curry. The only guy who has really been able to read Manny is Marquez. Even when Morales beat him clearly, he just kind of controlled him rather than read him as well as Marquez did.

In fact I would lower the scores of unreadability for Floyd and Leonard too. Neither one is that unpredictable, they're just very good at what they do.

  17. Certainly makes sense.

    And with that said:

    Duran vs Pacquiao

Defense (Blocking and/or upperbody reflexes) Duran 8, Pacquiao 6
Movement (footspeed, intelligent footwork) - Duran 7, Pacquiao 8
    Stamina - Duran 9, Pacquiao 10
    Chin - Duran 8, Pacquiao 8
    Power - Duran 8, Pacquiao 9
    handspeed - Duran 7, Pacquiao 10
Counterpunching Reflexes, Duran 8, pacquiao 6
Adaptability (ability to change strategy and tactics), Duran 7, Pacquiao 6
    Recuperative ability - Duran 6, Pacquiao 8
height and reach (I've combined them, because they work together), Duran 5, Pacquiao 5
Ring Generalship, Duran 8, Pacquiao 7
Offensive Repertoire, Duran 9, pacquiao 7
    Heart, Duran 8, pacquiao 9

Overal scores: Duran 98, Pacquiao 99

    Winner Manny Pacquiao :kidcool:
