Rematched this fight and you want to talk about bad judging? Mab needed a Lo to win that fight. Period.
JMM won but only because Barrera blew it. Barrera had the sonofabitch down but blew a 10-8 round for into a 10-8 round against by hitting while his man was down. I think Nady was the ref.
Marquez won it legit. It was closer than the cards which I think we can all agree on, but to say Barrera was robbed aint reality. I also thought Marquez slipped, incidentally.
I think Jmm won but my contention is it wasn't scored fairly at all. Mab clearly won the first three rounds but one judge gave him one round, the rest went to Jmm.
Yeah i was actually just thinking about this fight the other day for some reason. I don't know if i have a copy but it was a very good fight. Underrated i'd say.
Agreed. When it went to the decision i didn't think the result was certain although i though Marquez probably won it. The scores did seem a bit wide for sure, but i didn't actually score the fight round by round i can't really argue with the cards either. When watching a fight live i can't bring myself to actually "score" a fight as it detracts from the enjoyment. For the first half of a fight i normally just think to myself " I think fighter A is winning by two rounds but one of those could have went the other way" sort of thing. After the midway point i pay even less attention to scoring.
I remember scoring it for JMM, but it was pretty close. Close fight that happened when MAB was pretty much done and Marquez still had at least five good years left.
Barrera definitely dropped JMM Barrera was faded when they fought... I think he might have won it outright close to his prime
I don't think so. Barrera never would have beaten Marquez, it's just that close fights are the story of Marquez's career. He's an incredible fighter but he's often guilty of not doing quite enough, or doing just enough to win a round, sometimes being a tad negative, and having too much of a counterpuncher mentality. He beat Barrera clearly (albeit close), and I think he would have done the same to a prime Barrera, as he would have been required to do a bit more/fight better.
Its hard to say. Look at Holyfield, he arguably earned a draw with a prime Lewis when he was clearly washed up, yet I think Lewis-Holyfield would be very close, prime to prime. Marquez-Barrera shapes up similarly, IMO.
I think the reason for that is because he is nowhere near as great as people make him out to be... he's a terrific counterpuncher who throws terrific textbook combinations, but he's also vulnerable to being hurt, has trouble when he has to lead and has difficulty fighting on the inside when his opponent eliminates the distance
JMM clearly won. All Barrera tried to do was steal rounds. Aside from that fluky knockdown he never did shit. And he blatanly hit JMM while he was down. Barrera thinks he is 3-0 against Morales too. when I watch interviews with Barrera or Morales regarding JMM you can tell they don't really like him and try not to give him his props. Morales until recently didn't recognized JMM as the best lightweight in the world. As if there's more fighters like JMM at 135
sure doesnt seem like you fancy his style as a judge. how'd you have his other fights with pacquiao scored, his fight with norwood, and his fight with john?
