Agree on Predator 2. It gets a bad rap which I just don't get. It's an excellent sequel to the first one and every bit as action and drama packed. I think it's the absence of A-Nold that upset people.

Alien 3 was terrible IMO. Absolutely terrible. They should have stopped after Aliens.

Batman Forever was better than people give it credit for, I agree.

Can't speak to any of the others as I haven't seen them.

    I would add:

    Pitch Black
    Chronicles of Riddick

Pitch Black was great, but the film has a real cult support base and IMO gets its due. I thought the sequel was pretty damn bad.

Rushmore, K-Pax, Buitiful, and Unbreakable are under-sold.

word. Can't be considered underrated. It almost won best picture.

It is however grossy underappreciated by the elitist movie critics...as are so many popular films like:

    Titanic
    LOTR

    etc

When dudebuddy rides in on Taruk near the end of the film and the Tribe leader looks at him in wonder and says:

"Taruk Makto...I shall ride with you!"

    I get goosebumps everytime. :kidcool:

What does underrated in this context mean, that critics generally didn't like it?

    Vin Deisel is SHIT

It's like two agents were sitting around and one said to the other "I bet you 5 grand that I can find the biggest idiot bouncer in the next club we go to and make him a movie star"

"There he is! Look at this asshole! I just talked to him, he sounds retarded... he's fucking PERFECT"

as for underrated movies, there's an old one from I think around 1972 or '73 with Lee Marvin called "Emperor Of The North Pole", takes place during the depression, hobos riding the rails... he's great in it, very entertaining with Ernest Borgnine at his big, grinning best as a psychopathic conductor... fun movie, if you ever find it

Purely by coincidence, another great movie with Lee Marvin and Luke Skywalker is "The Big Red One"

Under-rated could mean anything. Critics didn't like it, Box Office didn't like it, overlooked at the Academy, Generally forgotten about................pick one or all.

This is easily the most under-rated of Spielberg's films IMO. A really great war movie shown from a civilian perspective we aren't used to seeing. Christian Bale was great as the young kid.

Also a similar movie that came out about that time and has been almost completely forgotten. About the blitzkrieg in Britain.

I remember I saw this as a kid, and it really fucked with my head. Some intense scenes in that one.

that's the problem: people are so varied that pretty much any good movie could be counted as under-rated, because it'll be rated low by at least one group. e.g. whatever the 20-year-old commercial crowd like, the arthouse crowd will hate, and vice versa. so it's best to anchor it to

    - the critics' opinion, or
    - to identify a movie that never got much coverage or which doesn't get replayed or talked about much these days, but that would be popular among at least some groups if more people knew about it.

just saying that something is underrated because whatever people are in your general vicinity don't like it is pretty pointless, since we're all surrounded by different people at different times.
