Fighters moving anti clockwise

Hopkins has taken to doing this allot as his careers progressed and allot of guys just can't deal with it (including southpaws, who seem equally unaccustomed to it). Duran would do this more subtly, usually just on the inside to gain an angle. The only other orthodox fighter before Hopkins I've ever noticed doing this habitually on the outside is Wallcott, who I assume Hops took it from.

Are there any others you know of who did this?

Not many, Duran comes to mind too, he would often move to his right.

It has to be said it does feel so much more unnatural than moving left, if you're an orthodox fighter at least, probably why regardless of training, most fighters move to the left.

It's almost like an orthodox fighter going southpaw actually.

Yeah it's hard to get the rhythm right for it. Jabbing that way is pretty simple but getting any shots behind it without getting your feet tangled is like learning to do everything from scratch. It's still always surprising to me to see so many top level pros unable to do it, because it's a learnable skill and an important one. The worst example I can think of is Cooney in the Holmes fight, that guy literally just COULDN'T move right, never mind fight effectively moving right. Today Cotto is really bad too, you saw him turning SP repeatedly against Pac and IMO, if you watch it, it often just seemed to be so he could fight going right.

Lennox Lewis moved anti clockwise a fair amount, actually. I wanna try and find other examples.

  4. word.

Very unnantual to move right if you're orthodox....because the natural tendency is to move in the direction of the jabbing hand.

Three great boxers from the late 50s and early 60s come to mind... the great Joe Brown, as well as masterful pure boxers Ralph Dupas and Joey Archer employed the technique from time to time... Dupas was all over the place... very hard guy to get to

Hey, Ike's just keeping me on the straight and narrow. Lord knows I don't want another embarrassing incident like that misused 'your' from three years ago in my case file. Thanks Ike. :truce:

You've got it backward, mate. Hut's got the real deal, you're speaking a bastardised version (as do I).

I like how Hut defends himself. He is acting that someone who thinks he has an equal opinion can defend himself through the passage of time. The fact that are a man in your 20's and only three years ago learned the difference between "your" and "you're" is perfectly acceptable and I somehow have a problem.

That is like asking someone for some brick when you mean cheese. I , for one, shall never forgive you.

As for English being born an England and therefore it is correct is a hideous notion. Now, I know my fellow Americans have destroyed the English language. Still to say anti-clockwise is ugly. Please desist and speak like 'mericans.

For fucks's sake, you guys still have a queen, lol.

I didn't say you had a problem, Ike. And you're right, counter clockwise sounds better.

Somebody smiles and waves, reads from an autocue or gives a pre prepared speech, cuts a ribbon or signs the piece of paper they're told to for reasons they don't really understand. People clap reverentially. Queen, Prime minister, President, a groomed Hollywood actor like Regan....meh.

A good one - Montel Griffin in the first RJJ fight. Worked very well.
