  1. Does Bernard embarrass him?

No, but he probably earns a tight decision.

  3. LOK

LOK I'll eat your asshole alive

    Yes

  4. word.

6'1", 75" reach vs 5'8", 67" reach...not to mention Bernard's brilliance and movement. Lamotta is chasing rainbows in this one.

Agree actually thisd be pretty one sided

  6. Dog Jones

Dog Jones WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

LaMotta probably outboxes Hop but there's a good chance Hop could end things with one punch

If Robinson couldn't manage to "embarass" Lamotta, Hopkins isn't going to.

    agree

Hopkins had plenty of toruble with strong, persistent fighters

I like Bernard by decision, but not without a lot of grief

Hops by decision, but not in a one-sided fight.

Im not familiar enough with Lamotta's career to have any useful input on this. The fights he had with Murphy didn't seem to bode well for how Lamotta would deal with the range deficit here, but he was past his best by then and heavier

  12. cdogg187

    cdogg187 GLADYS

He was borderline shot and in there against a large light heavyweight who was an absolute bomber

Ray Robinson was a WELTER Who Could Fight @ Middle...Bernard was a BIG, TALL Middle...Don't Forget, Bernard Debuted @ HEAVIER than 175lbs...

LaMotta's Biggest Asset Against Ray Robinson was his STRENGTH & SIZE Advantage...He WOULDN'T have that Against Bernard...REED's Seen his Fair Share of LaMotta Bouts & Never Quite GOT what was Soooooo "Great" about Him, Aside from Being the 1st Man to Beat Robinson...

Tough, Durable Guy for Sure...Bernard's Tough & Durable as Well Though, Not to Mention More SKILLED than LaMotta & More ATHLETIC than LaMotta...

LaMotta Makes Bernard WORK Every Step of the Way, but BHop Takes a VERY Convincing UD Here...

  14. What Robinson could or couldn't do with Lamotta is irrelevant. Leonard couldn't embarass Duran but Hearns could.

  15. steve_dave

    steve_dave Hard As Fuck

Bad example. Leonard embarrassed Duran more than anyone.

  16. And REED is right...Bernard is naturally a bigger man than Robinson was and he's taller, rangier and yes...is smarter.

...and not even half the fighter Robinson was.

Hopkins would never beat LaMotta easy.

  18. Hopkins doesn't lose to Fulmer or Turpin in 100 tries.

Robinson had a legendary record and was the first slick black fighter to revolutionize the sport...and deservedly has the consensus P4P title...but let's not get carried away here.

Bernard not HALF the fighter Robinson was?

UTTERLY PREPOSTEROUS statement! Especially at Middleweight.

Agreed with this. Robinson's record is legendary, but watching from the film it is not like there was a giant gulf in skill between him and Hopkins

  20. if there is a gulf at all.

  21. steve_dave

    steve_dave Hard As Fuck

There is probably a gulf... just not as big a Romanza suggests. Hopkins was more like 4/5 the fighter Robinson was. :kidcool:

  22. whiskey

    whiskey Czarcasm

3/5 is as far as i'll go.

I was thinking in terms of talent, as Hopkins is a master craftsman. Like Roy Jones, Robinson could do things Hopkins could only dream about.

After what, 160/170 fights and facing Robinson's schedule and level of opposition,
guess again, in the case of Fullmer. The Turpin shot is an extremely low blow youre making.

Not sure about that. Punching power is obvious (for a welterweight Robinson) but the differences in speed, movement or combination punching are not that huge. Robinson was not as quick and athletic as Roy Jones was

What's Being OVERLOOKED Here is Bernard's Superior DEFENSIVE Ability...In Terms of Sheer UNhittability, he was BETTER than Ray Robinson...As GREAT as Robinson Was, Defense WASN'T 1 of his Strong Suits...

LaMotta Would Learn that Bernard ISN'T as Available to Be Hit, as Robinson was...

  27. word.

People act that Robinson was the GOAT in every single conceivable category. He wasn't and you are correct...he was rather hittable for a slick black speedy fighter. Bernard is significantly more elusive.

  28. cdogg187

    cdogg187 GLADYS

    no, nobody actually does

you simply PERCEIVE that, which is why you come up with stupid bullshit reasons to elevate inferior fighters over him

  29. Hopkins is a better middleweight than Robinson. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! :Lok:

Roy Jones? Historically, he'd rank higher, he did more there
