Fights in which dirt probably altered outcome...

Obviously, Margarito/Cotto comes to mind. But less obviously, how about Gomez/Pintor? Besides the forearms, anyone notice how many low-blows Gomez threw? A major one just prior to the final punch in fact. And this would've been before the giant cups they wear now.

What are some high profile fights in which you think the outcome might have been different had it not been for the dirt?

You know what's sad? There really are fighters who get robbed and have a legitimate beef - even ones who themselves have never benefited from a bad decision. And their gripe gets lost and trivialized everytime a guy like JMM cries robbery because he doesn' t have the guts to accept the truth.

trowbridge was dirty. pretty hard to deny that.

All those fights from back in the pre-MOQ days, where they fought sometimes on actual dirt floors, it wouldve been a factor.

Gomez-Pintor, yes! Pintor handled the filth pretty admirably.

Im not discussing this one, merely mentioning it...Duran-Moore.

Trying to think of a fight from the 40's or 50's where it was said dirt was a big factor. Damn, cant get to it.

Baer-Galento was said (and from what Ive seen, damn was), a hugely dirty affair, though it was said both parties were guilty. Baer's contempt for Galento was said to be frightening, and Galento returned the feelings.

Zivic was always pretty proud of fouling his way to victory over Armstrong.

Cant wait for someone to mention either of the Holyfield-Tyson fights

This one is contentious, but possibly Ali-Frazier II?

This one wouldnt turn out differently, but Frazier's slim chance to beat Foreman (in retrospect) in, "The Showdown At Sundown," became zero with all the shoving.

    What about Saddler-Pep I?

Not a dirty fight, but unofficially Barrera couldve earned a draw on my card had he not fouled Marquez.

Now HERES a firey one...Leonard-Hagler, perhaps?

A recent fight -between Nathan Cleverly and Tony Bellew- I am pretty sure Cleverly knew exactly what he was doing with those repeated, early low-blows.

Any fight involving a Puerto Rican will have dirt....Cotto {vs Judah} and Trinidad {vs Vargas} were good examples of a Rican throwing low-blows to get out of trouble.

How about Torres-Holt I? At one stage, that even involved foul play from the crowd!

If holding and low blows are enforced, there's little doubt Tszyu knocks Hatton out with one punch.

Not even close. That punch was borderline, Buchanan pussied out. He was getting dominated anyway.

If by different outcome you mean landslide decision win instead of late stoppage win, then....maybe.

That punch was about as "borderline" low as Mrs. Bika is "borderline" unattractive.

 Duran is so awesome, just look at him.

Either way that photo doesn't show much, watch the footage, it's sort to the side/top, it doesn't land square in the nuts or even close actually.

Even if it did, so what, Buchanan won 2 rounds.

It changed the outcome in the sense Buchanan was going to last the distance, so it qualifies.

Im glad youre not a ref though if you felt that borderline.

Duran fouled all the way, the final shot that was closer of Buchanan's knee than his waistline. Just like some truly great fighter dominates his opponent and seals it with a KO shot, Duran cheated all the way and finished with an ultimate foul. Nearly the same thing

that photo doesn;t show the actual shot, by the way

that is an "immediate aftermath" photo, Duran's glove happens to be there, but the shot (punch or knee) came before that famous picture

Rather like the famous picture of Marciano distorting Walcott's face, which people often incorrectly believe is the fabled KO punch.
