Funny you mention Berto - he's looking at a rematch with Ortiz. A decent enough fight, yet the irony is that Showtime has emerged as the frontrunner to land it.

I agree, though, anything close to more of the same won't look good for Ken Hershman, who didn't have any problem taking a lot of the credit for Showtime's turnaround and ability to hang with HBO (though not so much in recent months)

 

Chavez is improving. It is sad that he is still officially undefeated. Never has boxing been in a worse state. Angulo, Chavez and Canelo Alvarez should not even be undercard fighters on HBO much less headliners. Any decent 154 pounder could fight all 3 in a year and have 3 knokout wins. Chavez at least is rising to the level of opponent of a world class fighter.

 

I saw Manfredo at a Ruby Tuesday's restaurant a few years back... I didn't say anything to him, though

 

You don't have the hideous New England too do you? I often spend nights thinking which accent is worse New England or New York accent? I think you made the right move. One sentence in that hideous accent and I would jumped out the plate glass window.

 

I have essentially a non-regional accent with partial New York traits on certain sounds

My parents were from the Bronx, so certain words I say as a New Yorker might, I have no idea why, they just sort of made their way into my speech

I pronounce "Horrible" as HAR-ible, "Orange" as Arange, "Florida" as Flahrida ... but that's really it, there's no other really noticeable variations

There are many different New England accents, though... people in Massachussetts don't sound anything like people in CT, people in Maine also sound very different

Even within tiny little CT, there are regions with accents... where I live, there is the Naugatuck Valley accent, which is dreadful

 

My grandfather could not make the "th" sound in many words, a trait no doubt picked up from hearing his family (all from Ireland, with accents that derived from the Irish language, which has no "th" sound) ... he didn't say "Three" or "Thirty", he would say "Tree" or "Terty"

 

I can end one American Mystery. I can tell you why the Kennedys were shot dead. The mafia..no...a cuckold husband..no...cASTRO...NO. iT WAS THEIR ACCENT.I HAD A PROFESSOR FROM MAINE. Fucking awful accent....."ehra, ehra, ehra, yoooou got to shooooow yuhhh wohrk, shuh yuh werk."
