Looking forward to seeing this one unfold. Apparently, Broner hasn't seen Rodriguez fight before, but knows he didn’t make up his record {won 34, KO 19, lost 2, KO 0, drawn 1.} ''I’m not gonna play with this guy. I want to be world champion.†Is what Broner has been quoted as saying. I was expecting a tough night's work for Broner before actually paying attention to watching Rodriguez fight and now I feel that this could end quickly. Broner should be able to land some big hits. Rodriguez will probably aim to apply constant pressure but may miss a great deal and Broner should be able to deal with the attacks and pull the strings. Broner TKO 4 is my prediction.
Rodriguez looks as soft as his resume. I don't know how long the fight will last, but don't anticipate more than a minute of it being remotely competitive. Well done, Al Haymon. Well done.
I was glad that HBO slammed the brakes on Russell Jr getting airplay. I liked him as an amateur, but he's turned into a prima donna cunt as a pro. His last fight had no business being on HBO, and neither does this one, not even in highlight capacity.
I think Rodriguez will aim to apply pressure, but throw punches in the process. He may not be successful, but it shouldn't be a boring fight. Broner should be too good.
Didn't realise that Russel Jrs fight wasn't televised. Figured HBO would showcase him and try to at least create a new star. Looking forward to Alvarez whupping Cintrons ass.
OK, so here is where Russell's cuntiness comes into play (to answer MWS' earlier question). This show began as a tripleheader. Russell was supposed to fight some Cuban guy. I forget his name, but the guy turned down the fight in favor of a title eliminator. HBO then offered Teon Kennedy, a small junior featherweight who just lost his last fight and looked like shit. Russell demanded a catchweight of 127 lb. for the fight, Kennedy's people said thanks but no thanks. HBO and Russell couldn't agree on an opponent, so he instead fights off TV. He was going to fight Dat Nguyen, but he pulled out. He's now fighting Humberto Ruiz, who will look like he's fighting in slow motion compared to Russell. Long story short, HBO tried. Al Haymon wound up pulling the same bullshit he has with Paul Williams all year and it's finally costing him.
Nice one, Irish. I ended up getting pretty hammered last night on lager and JD & cokes. Will need to catch these fights later. What do you think of Broner, Irish?
Have to give Broner credit. Even in Floyd's presence last night, he still managed to serve as the most arrogant man in the room. He looked good last night and has the tools to go far, especially in a 130 lb. division that's loaded with talented fighters who are at a speed and possibly power disadvantage against him. He's peaking at the right time.
With Gary Russel or without? Oh and by the way - spit out what the fuck happened and and spare us this OOH I was there and have a cool insider story but I will just post a little hint and wait until ten people ask me what exactly went down... for ONCE!!! ::
Don't really see it with either of these guys. It became evident with Nonito and Gamboa pretty quickly they were special talents, not so much with Adrien and Gary. They don't look bad by any means, but I don't see them as the successors to Pacquiao and Floyd etc. Problem is, who else is there? :: Nonito and Gamboa aren't spring chickens, and there don't appear to be talented enough prospects to become elite fighters for the next wave.
The post-fight interview w/ Max is a good place to start. The rest - I wrote a brief on it this morning. http://www.boxingscene.com/self-confidence-no-problem-adrien-broner--46493 The abridged version - after kissing up to Floyd basically for his entire career, he got pissy when someone dare asked after the fight if Floyd (who was in attendance) had anything to say to him about his performance. Feel caught up now?
And I thought Gary Russell was fine, at least in his interview. Max pressed him in wondering when he'd step up in competition. Russell just played it cool and... well, kind of ignored the question, but didn't get riled up over it. Thought he handled it well.
Broner seems like a total chode :: Incidentally Jake - shouldn't "Broner insulted at the suggestion" be changed to "Perhaps Broner felt insulted at the suggestion"?
Yes. This is what get's me. HBO sanction the competition, in private, and then in public one of their agents {MK} asks a guy {who is stripped to the waist and sweating} a question about when he is going to step up his comp. Don't sanction the fight and then ask the kid when he's stood there with a light in his eyes about when is he going to fight better guys.:shit: This is why Bunce hates Kellerman. He did the same with Chris John, asking John stupid questions in some slowed-down English immediately after the fight. Do the small-talk by all means, then piss off.
What was that somebody once said about England and America? Two peoples divided by a common language? ::
Well, if Broner keeps performing like he has in his last two fights, then his talent + his cocky personality could = Stardom.
HBO didn't approve the fight. It only aired in overseas broadcasts. It wasn't aired specifically on HBO, just in highlight capacity.
Yeah but he has to perform like that against guys that can actually fight. I seriously doubt we ever again hear from Rodriguez, at least on the title level. and that's not Monday morning QBing; I said it going in (in fact, in this very thread if I'm not mistaken). He's still two fights removed from a disputed decision against Ponce de Leon - who moved up in weight for the fight.
Broner looks good and only time will tell how good he can become. I bet Broner studies Floyd's fights religiously, then tries to replicate what he sees in his own fights. It was a nice finish to KO Rodriguez, but Rodriguez was not at all that good, was quite wild in there and was a fair bit smaller in frame and height to Broner. Btw, did you see Russell jr's KO of Ruiz? Was sweet. Ruiz' eyes nearly ended up embedded into his Brain. :Lok:
