3 is generous. I dont see Mugabi lasting 2. And yes, Roy KO 2 even if its the Mugabi that fought Hagler. Roy would be hitting Mugabi with so much more speed, and power than old Hagler, its not even funny.
There's no way Jones goes after a hitter like Mugabi that quickly... He'd play it safe for a while... I'm thinking Jones TKO10 or 11
Mugabi was a midget with a terrible defense. He'd press Roy, and throw heat at him, and Roy WOULD counter. Theres no way in holy hell Mugabi sees the 10th. Thomas Tate and Sugar Boy Maligna both has had MUCH better chins than Mugabi. Mugabi doesnt get out the early rounds. Stop overrating Mugabi based on the Hagler fight. Roy hit a GREAT deal harder than Hagler, and would be hitting Mugabi with shots he never sees.
No, Mugabi would plod around and Jones would pot shot him, winning every round before deciding later on to go for it and step on the gas Malinga happened at 168, this is a middleweight fight... you are missing a larger point... Malinga hit like a girl, Tate was largely a defensive guy with very average power... Jones annihlated them because he always annihlated guys like that What serious puncher did Jones ever throw caution to the wind against? It was completely NOT his style... He was very fucking careful with guys who could punch and would be with Mugabi who has literally NOTHING for him other than a big punch... He'd take his time, break him down Again, I don't know how you see this as "overrating" Mugabi... I'm picking him to lose every goddamn second and get eventually stopped when Roy feels comfortable turning on the juice... I'm just disagreeing with you guys and your KO3-type picks because it is totally at odds with Jones' career
This isnt the Jones who fought Clinton Woods we're talking about here. You're acting as if young Roy would just pot shot like Floyd. Roy would catch Mugabi with a check hook he never sees, and it'd be over. Its basically as simple as that.
at 160 and 168 Roy was far more willing to stand in and trade. He beat the hell out of Mugabi. Wouldn't be any different than how he dealt with say Merqui Sosa.
Continuing to repeat the same bullshit over and over doesn't make it any more true than the first time you said it.
How would Mugabi take Roy's shots for 10 rounds? You KNOW Roy would be landing at will. And its not like he'd be throwing pitty pat shit at Mugabi. And if you think he'd be running from Mugabi or something, you're badly mistaken. Like I said, as reckless as Mugabi was.... he comes in, gets timed with a check hook, and thats all she wrote. Simple as that.
I dont see him being reckless against a guy that fast... I think he's more confused and defensive, keeps the hands up, unsure of what to do And Mugabi was not chinny... I can only once again reference how fucking useless he was by the time he fought Norris... He was fighting as a super middleweight 2 months before the fight, his previous two fights had been at that weight against the biggest bums you ever saw in your life... he had a belt because he had dropped down to 154 to fight Rene Jaquot, he did NOTHING of consequence in the fight, Jacquot slipped and broke his ankle, he couldn;t continue and Mugabi (who hadn;t fought a single name guy since Duane Thomas in 1986) was the new "champion" ... After the Hagler fight, Mugabi got a title shot at Duane Thomas and was winning the fight when he suffered a freak eye injury, his orbital bone was broken, and the fight was stopped... Dejected, he retired for over a year and got FAT before his promoter encouraged him to give boxing another shot... He came back and fought GARBAGE FIGHTERS for two years before "defeating" Jacquot... he was NOTHING when he fought Norris... If you look at his original, real career, he was down one time in 28 fights after taking ceaseless punishment for 10 rounds against Hagler, who certainly hit hard enough to hurt you... The guy's chin was fine, he was not chinny. And before anyone says "midget" again, the guy was a MIDDLEWEIGHT for 17 of his first 26 fights leading up to Hagler Sly can ignore everything as always and Jake can make snarky remarks about Green and Fletcher (ignoring of course, HOW Mugabi beat those guys) ... but John Mugabi was not a tiny, chinless punching bag prior to his first retirement... He became that way later from crazy weight fluctuations, excessive lifestyle and eroding ability... the guy Terry Norris iced was a fucking bum with a name
