An important consideration is that if Margarito's gloves were loaded, Cotto would not have had the option to block and parry, must have resorted to moving all the time, just as ODH had against Trinidad (for same reason).

If this is case, Cotto can now rely on blocking

What the fuck are you talking about man? Do you know the difference between the two wraps?

I think without plaster Margarito is not worldclass. His short shots inside won't hurt anymore so Cotto won't gas out by running. There's no reason why Cotto shouldn't be able to stop him to the body and to the eye. I'm picking a Cotto TKO.

I agree! The effectiveness of Margarito's style is predicated on his ability to hurt his man with lots of short punches thrown with little effort.

yep...His whole thing was to get close and touch you all over the place with his plaster. In his last 3 fights without the plaster he's loading up more trying to hurt the guy. It pretty clear that he's adapted his style.

Let's be real here, people are acting like Margarito's whole hand was wrapped in a plaster cast, it wasn't. It was tiny pads that were hardened, it's not like he had rocks in his gloves. Seems to me that people overrated what these tiny pads are capable of, the truth is, we don't know how much of a difference it makes or doesn't make. While I obviously don't condone what he did, how much extra damage do you really think some tiny little pads causes?

    Then why do it?

Because they obviously thought it was an advantage and I'm not disagreeing with that, I'm just questioning those who are acting like he had a sledge hammer in his gloves. How much difference do YOU think it made?

thank you. i'm so glad someone else recognizes this.

so many seem unable or unwilling to recognize the profound advantages this provides a fighter.

being able to put hurt on his opponent is just one advantage it affords. with this hurt he can control the fight (make his man run all night). he can throw meaningful and hurtful shots without exerting too much energy (he needed not load up).

I sincerely believe this is what killed Trinidad and Margarito both in their first fights without their wraps. In both cases, the fighters loaded up their shots with extreme conviction, mindful they'd need to do so to generate the power they were accustomed to bestowing. what neither guy took into account, though, was the amount of energy it would consume to do so. and that's why both guys were knocked out as much due to exhaustion as from hard shots from their opponents.

does anyone think Mosley hits any harder than Cotto or Cintron? Neither guy of which could hurt Margarito at all? No. The obvious explanation is that whereas against those guys Margarito held over their heads a sword of plaster, he had no such weapon against Mosley. He had to fight fair.

It's interesting you noticed he's changed his style to adapt. His beating Cotto in the rematch depends on his ability to do so. I think having changed it can help him conserve energy and be more competitive. But I don't think he can win without his wraps. If he could, he would not have resorted to them in the first place.

Yeah, I really have a tough time picking a winner here.

So many factors at play, besides the wrap controversy. How much does Margarito have left? He's been fighting as a pro since 1994 with a high action, give-and-take style. He's taken two horrendous beatings in recent years, suffered a serious eye injury, and has probably also been in a lot of
    gym wars too.

He still might simply have a stylistic advantage on Cotto, in addition to a psychological edge. Cotto's no spring chicken either, and has been in really rough fights as well.

I guess I'll just go with Cotto by UD, with the Plastered Bastard making it rough for Cotto, but simply being more declined than him.

My wish is for it to be exciting and competitive for most of the way, then it turns into Robinson-LaMotta 6, with Cotto beating and also taunting Margarito
while pummeling him, and then stops the shitbird at the end of the 12th with a Williams-Jack type ending.

    Fuck Margarito.

A Huge difference. Cotto's face has never been busted up like that before. the man looked like he was hit with a sledge hammer.

I dont think a fighter like Margarito risks his career and his reputation for a slight advantage.

  22. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

he risked nothing if there is no proof he did anything wrong. nor is it much of a risk if the opponent and his corner are incompetent enough to not even watch the process.

Well there is proof. There is proof in the Shane fight. And since that is the plaster we are talking about, it was a huge fucking risk.

I agree 100%, people act like he had brass knuckle in his gloves . He only had plaster of paris on his wrap. I think his performance vs Mosley was much more due to his poor training camp and the fiasco before the fight messing his mind

MArgarito owned Cotto big time by saying : ''I don't know why this guy call me a criminal I'm not the one who beats up his own familly ''

how so? he was caught doing the shit and has gone on for two career high paydays. if it was so risky what were the bad repercussions ?

Nah, putting little blocks of cement in your gloves is far worse than anything Cotto has ever done, or probably shall do.

Also, it was a hardened cement like substance, worse than the plaster of paris found in Tito's gloves.
