ndou looked like one of the top super featherweights in the world. he went up to lightweight and took a severe ass whipping from mayweather jr.

If I recall correctly, Kassim looked the goods against J.C. Candelo, and then he deflated.

How about King Ipitan? He knocked out Michael Bentt in sparring and was rumoured to be the next big thing, and then he loses to Bobby Crabtree, getting dropped and his ankle broken.

same here, and I hate Winky Wright

Like loadedgloves said, There isn't a truly complete, smart fighter of similar size who I would pick him against, I think he has a style and the style works but the result is not the Mosley and Trinidad fights time and time again, it only works out that way against guys like that who have the strength but lack the versatility and the brains... Wright was a good, difficult fighter

    Ledwaba does qualify actually.

Personally I didn't think he was that great, but for some reason HBO had a hard on for him at the time, were hyping him up, Pacquiao was meant to be the "opponent".

Yeah he was good, but not as good as the hype warranted at the time. HBO seemed fairly up his arse etc.

Why is Wright even being discussed ? How was he in any way even remotely "obscure" ? He had tonnes of high profile fights .. Vargas, Tito, Mosely, Taylor, Hopkins, and he was a excellent fighter too, very appropriately ranked.

Jeremy Williams was expeted to be something great at one point according to KO magazine around the time of that one-night heavyweight tournament which was won by Tony Tubbs way back in the 90s (and included Bert Cooper and Joe Savage). That didn't pan out too well.

I don't get the N'dou hype to be honest, I saw him fight over here against Anthony Campbell who's just a journeyman from Shepherds Bush and he lost. Thought I'd never hear of him again after that, next thing I know he's fighting Mayweather

I disagree with MWS that Winky was an overhhyped random guy, but I can't see him shutting out Pacquiao 12-0, or 10-2. I think it would be a very competitive fight.

the fights were like 5 years apart. :slap:

did anyone notice Ricardo Williams has been back in the ring for some time now, having won 9 straight since getting out of prison? and last I read, he was on the verge of taking on his first real challenge since getting back, but it's unclear if the fight is being broadcast anywhere and i'm not sure who the opponent is exactly.

he had some impressive showings in that time.

Not the one I saw bruv. Anthony Campbell was a nice guy and a good pro but he'd won as many as he'd lost, and no world class fighter had any business losing to him.

    Mohammed Abdullaev
    Kelson Pinto

Abdullaev had been a gold medalist with a very promising early career.

Pinto too had been a top amateur who I think had beaten Cotto as an amateur.

donaire isnt obscure but he is becoming over hyped. is he really about to fight a guy who just lost to arce??
    :boring:

Man, there were a lot of guys who thought Abdullaev was going to hammer Cotto someday... I remember that well

I was one of them. Abdullaev's eye swelled shut, but he kept the pressure on Cotto and made him fight. No idea where Abdullaev is now.

MAN, just checked boxrec. He had a fight against Kotelnik after Cotto and lost a decision. Then he didn't fight for FOUR YEARS, and since then he's fought tomatocans.

Not surprised at all Abddullaev lost to Kotelnik. Talk about having to be set to punch - Abdullaev was like a turret.

I admit that part me listing Winky is I just happen to dislike him and his annoyingly basic, boring style, but I really just don't see this great fighter people bang on about.

Winky went from underrated to overrated in that way that often happens when fighters are seen as "hidden gems" and what not.

He lost to the only real solid, all round 154 pounder he fought in Vargas, and his 2 big wins are over welterweights, one who looks awful at 154, and one who is a 1 dimensional scrub.

Really, genuinely, I would be shocked if this mythical fight was made and Winky won. I would take Pacquiao's speed, activity and accuracy all day over Winky's basic style. Pacquiao would be far too quick, it wouldn't look dissimilar to the Clottey or Plasterito fights.

Agreed 100%. I was too engaged in the boring Winky talk and forgot to reply, but I can't believe even some of the posts even in this thread, acting like Ndou was a legit fighter.

Even before Floyd I saw Ndou as a borderline scrub and thought he'd take a 1 sided beating against Floyd.

I didn't even realise he WAS hyped pre Floyd, I wasn't privy to it, he just seemed like a soft touch at the time, I don't think anyone really thought he stood a chance against Floyd.

  28. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

Len's hyperbole is alarming. pacquiao is more or less shot and trinidad was a scrub.

Tito is the scrubbiest guy considered an elite fighter in the history of boxing, he had a big meaty left hook and good stamina, that's about it. He had the ring IQ of a fencepost, big floppy legs, and it took him 3 or 4 seconds to even set his feet to land the masssive left hook.

Even so he knew when to let his hands go and was better at cutting off the ring than a guys like Juarez or Tua.
