Hearns Stops Margarito As Easy As He Did Cuevas?

Tito's hook was quicker than Cotto's. Perhaps wider, but it reached the target faster. I think you're forgetting how deadly quick he was.

I mean, as far as puncher's go, I'm not saying he was Tyson fast. But his handspeed is VERY underrated nowadays.

Compared to Phony, Tito's handspeed would be looking like Ray Robinson's.

Trinidad hit far harder than Cotto, Mosley or Pacquaio

:) Even Shuler backed him up for the first 60s until Hearns landed a good one and noticed how much it hurt him. That would have been the general pattern of the fight otherwise like it was against McKraken, Baez, Barkley, etc. Just Hearns natural reaction to other guys with range. Not a criticism - he was almost as effective onthe outside as centre ring.

Yeah Tito's hands were fast once they were moving. It's just that he tended to have to lean right onto the lead foot to get leverage on his hook, and good counter punchers could read that (compare that to Robinson who could throw a hook from the front or back foot and was nearly unreadable with it). Margarito would just fucking eat it, though.

No way did Tito have faster hands than Cotto.

The raw velocity of Tito's punches wasn't awful, probably similar to Cotto, but the difference is he took a few seconds to set his big floppy feet and load up.

Cotto is no speed demon but the good thing about him is he can punch without being set, he just snaps his punches out there from any position, they have almost no start up time.

Agreed - I just beat you to basically the same point. Against a stationary target Tito's hands were fast enough, mind.

Tito's left hook started behind his left ear.

If you're a slow, defenseless bum coming straight at a welterweight Hearns, it doesn't matter how tough you are, you're getting laid out and early. Leonard & Duran would both stop him as well.

I'd fancy Basilio to beat Margarito at his own game in a 15 round fight. Same day weigh-in.

Hearns blasts him right out. Right out.

I can't think of a single marquee welterweight I would fancy him to beat.

Hindsight is great, I know. But he cheated against Cotto, lost to Santos, lost to Pac, lost to Shane.

Floyd should have fought him. He would have lost, but Floyd is still a cunt. I add this like I add disinfectant to my toilet. Keeps the Strepto-Floydoccus at bay.

Not Marquee but Martinez, Cotto, Cintronx2, Lewis, Clottey, Diaz, Kyvelos, Lujan, old Kamau & Randal plus a gnats pube away from Williams too.......that's a really GOOD welterweight resume. And I don't personally believe he coulda got away with loaded gloves in all those fights either.

I personally think last nights Margarito was probably borderline shot. 33 after two hellacious beatings, an enforced lay off and a career style like that? But lets remember him as a bum anyway, he deserves that.
