Great chin. Daniel Santos hurt him the most I have ever seen besides Mosley. Just poof of Santos' greatness in his prime.
And despite anything bad you can say about him, he did have world class power and some speed to go along with it (both in his left hand).
Floyd has a sound chin, but he's been hurt and wobbled before, he's been floored too... He's not in the Laporte category by a long shot, but then again, very few are
I disagree... He was another guy that got by on taking shots because he was sledom throwing enough punches to be truly vulnerable to blinding shots... excellent chin, but I don't think his career length or the amount of truly dangerous punchers he faced warrants being in the discussion of all-time... Quartey was the best hitter he faced, and Quartey was not a one-shot guy by any means, and the vast majority of his punches were jabs... obviously super heavy jabs but not KO punches... Lopez had an excellent chin, but I wouldn't say it's as proven as a LaPorte or Hagler or Chavez or Kid Gavilan
hagler had a great chin but in which fights was he taking all these blinding KO punches while trading shots?
Tommy Hearns, round 1 is a perfect example... It's a safe assumption that 95% of Middleweights would have been looking up at the ref yelling "8!" after fielding some of those shots
I was going to say, does that question need to be asked? It's one of the most famous fights ever ffs ::
that was one punch in one fight. a great shot, sure, but i was expecting you to have at least one other example.
One punch??? He took about 20 at least in that round that would have laid out anybody... there's a very good reason most guys didn't go right at Hearns throwing lots of punches He took some bombs from Roldan, Cyclone Hart, Mugabi and Bennie Briscoe, all of them major-league punchers and none of them ever hurt the guy... (unless you are one of the morons who thinks the Roldan "knockdown" was an actual legit knockdown caused by a punch, which it very plainly wasn't)
I can scarcely believe I am debating the merits of Marvin Hagler's chin, LOL Of all the things you could talk about with regards to Marvin, good or bad, I would think the issue of his having an obscenely hard chin would be agreed upon by everyone
You've never seen Hagler Vs Hearns? I find that hard to believe. But anyway, Hagler was as tough as they come. Hagler was a great boxer, but I guess he wasn't the best defensively, as he did tend to take big punches flush, as per some of cdogg's examples. He had an excellent chin, I've never even seen him properly stunned I don't think.
Nah he was hurt by Hearns, Hagler came out all full of piss and vinegar, and he spent the next minute wondering about that tactic. Hearns also broke his hand with that shot.
Neil has no clue what the fuck you are talking about. He is confused person. Break it down more for him.
it doesn;t show when you watch it He never stopped going at Tommy that whole round... the biggest shot moved him, but he was in no way in trouble, he kept firing back
I could see if I named some guy nobody thinks of as having a great chin, Hagler should be basically understood
Yup... Sometimes, Hagler was very sharp defensively, but he also had a tendency to let certain tactics get the better of him and he'd forget his skills... that's when He'd get hit... to his credit, he still managed win even when he failed to fight HIS fight, I think his chin had a lot to do with that
Exactly, that's the point, he didn't even look hurt by any of Hearns' bombs. If he was hurt, he did a pretty fucking good job of hiding it. He never looked troubled at all.
against hearns, hagler ate some big bombs while trading shots with a monster puncher for one round. in other examples cdogg mentioned he got hit with shots, not much different than shots lopez and margarito have taken throughout their careers.
