Most of the ones I thought of have already been mentioned. The media has gone way off the rails with Margarito if you ask me. I can understand the hatred (I think he's a POS as well), but some of the stuff being "reported" borders on defamatory.

Surprised Mayorga hasn't been mentioned yet.

Margarito cheated, attempted to cheat..... and never expressed an iota of remorse.

Haye's a cunt but for the sake of self-promotion. It seems to be working because by next year, he'll have pulled out of a fight w/ each Klitschko and yet will have managed to secure fights with each. That he's even getting a payday against Vitali after that disgraceful showing against Wlad speaks volumes of how much he still brings to the table.

Mayorga gets fights because he's a beatable name who doesn't seem to give a shit about losing. He's a self-promoter as well, but is garbage as a human being as far as I'm concerned. But sports being what they are, what's done outside the ring hardly matters as long as they don't cheat between the ropes.

I don't dismiss the possibility that his wraps were loaded for the Cotto fight, which by and large diminishes the biggest win of his career.

I just question why Naazim Richardson is the only guy in the business who seems to be able to discover these things. I don't know how long he's been doing it, if the Mosley fight was just the first time he got caught, or if he got caught the first (only) time he attempted it.

If the Margarito stuff is true, then you also have to call into question every state commission where he's fought, and the trainers/camp members for all of his past opponents.

Viewing things through legal goggles, the evidenced supplied from the Cotto fights makes for great conspiracy theories but would be inconclusive in a court of law. Nor does it prove his wraps were loaded for... when exactly are we suggesting? Some say post-Williams. Some say as far back as nearly beating Lujan's ear off of his head.

I also find it hysterical that Saturday was "proof" that Cotto would've won the first fight as well. The media insists that Margarito is the same exact fighter he was three years ago, and that's bias at its most extreme.

Margarito wasn't a one-eyed fighter three years ago, or even one year ago. He didn't catch career-worst beatings three years ago. And at the risk of agreeing with Margarito, Cotto never seemed to truly hurt him in either fight.

I despise Margarito and am glad that Cotto gets to move on from all of that. If that's what Saturday night served for Cotto, then good for him. But I don't see where it's the media's job to revel in Cotto's satisfaction as well.

I mean, Floyd is on the wrong end of a defamation suit for citing his belief that Pac's rise to the top isn't 100% natural, which he says as his opinion. People are retroactively accusing Margarito as a career-long cheater and selling it as fact. I don't get how one is worse than the other.

His career was pretty unspectacular before and after he beat Cotto, whether he cheated then and after or not. It wasn't quite a fraud, of course, but it was damned unspectacular.

Two things here, first is agreement with you that there is at least the possibility that he loaded for Cotto Part Uno. Some folk love to put it that he went out partying, fell on his arse, needed a pick-me-up and invented the wraps. Second thing: Cotto was his biggest "win" at that point and it alludes to the first quote I made, viz his career being bland at best prior to that.

1. Richardson is a reformed criminal an ex-con. He knows what to be looking for. Set one to catch one etc.

2. Richardson is probably the first man to have been given due cause to check the gloves. In this regard, let me refer back to the {albeit twisted and garbled} logic of Floyd Sr vis a vis Pac. When Sr. was asked to explain why he suspected something might be awry with Pac, he did it with what I would refer to as street-logic or street-method. He started off with DLH and concluded, yes, Oscar may have been dried out. He then, with a look of genuine puzzlement in his face, he pondered aloud how "Cotto....Strong Cotto....." had such a hard-time with Pac. No mention of tests or profound use of statistics or anything. Just a genuine puzzlement at something that did not look right.

I would use the same logic. Here we have Cotto, oozing, absolutely oozing blood. His head is disfigured. He's completely beaten. Beaten down, beaten up and cowed. A guy like Richardson, preparing Mosley, would have looked at that tape. The same ideas must have gone through his head. "This just doesn't compute. It doesn't stack up. Cotto. Strong Cotto" Richardson had what, to an ex-con, must have looked like a case of possible wrongdoing.

That's why he looked. Because he's an ex-con, and he knows people for what they are. Innate cheats.

Right, and he is at law entitled to the benefit of the doubt where a criminal charge is concerned. So far as civil litigation is concerned {a form of which we are engaging in} we need only decide if on the balance of probabilities he did something wrong. That's an easier test to satisfy.

In what regard to do you call them into question? When you got a guy like Larry Hazzard whose first words to a request to weigh gloves are that "There is dumb shit in boxing all the time but this is definitely a first for me". then that sort of puts people on notice as to the general uselessness of State Athletic Commissioners. He couldn't even deal quietly with a request from Shelley Finkel {a noted time-waster } He went and got Grant Elvis Phillips involved. There comes a time when people stop bothering with the SAC's. As for the members of Cotto's own camp or the camp of AM's opponents being called into question....their incompetence is not proof or evidence, of anything, one way or the other.

Agreed. But we aren't judging him in a court of law. We are judging him in a civil, private sense, and the balance of probabilities will suffice for that.

The further and further and further we go back the easier it is for AM and his people to diffuse the issue by demanding evidence that get's harder and harder to find. The proximity, both temporally and chronologically, of the first Cotto fight to the Mosley fight is key. The evidence is at its strongest at the point of greatest interest. I am not interested in whether he loaded his gloves for the Cintron win. I am interested in whether he loaded them for the first Cotto fight. Thats my primary area of interest.

It is only bias at an extreme if it tries to suggest this at the same time it tries to suggest that Cotto was past his best.

His eye closed up after 5 or 6 rounds, which was the same amount of time that it took in the first fight to break Cotto down, obviously because of the wraps.

He landed almost as many shots in the first half of this fight, not only did they not hurt Cotto, but they didn't turn his face into a grotesque, bleeding mess.

For Jake, Steve etc - if you had to bet your house on whether or not Plasterito loaded his gloves for Cotto, what would you pick?

A recent WikiLeaks cable that features material from the US Ambassador to Nicaragua's files has some surprising revelations for the boxing world.

One section of the document entitled "NICARAGUA'S MOST WANTED PART I: THE CRIMES OF
DANIEL ORTEGA AND HIS FAMILY," contains the bombshell that super middleweight Ricardo Mayorga, who was accused of raping a 22-year-old woman in Managua, Nicaragua, in September 2004, allegedly made a secret deal with President Daniel Ortega, head of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FLSN) government, allowing him to beat the charge.

According to the document, the FLSN "agreed to protect the boxer in the courts if he would give the party a large portion of his international boxing winnings and 'advertise' for Daniel in public. Mayorga agreed, and an FSLN judge found him not guilty in December."

Following the alleged fixing of the trial, the document states that, "much of Mayorga's winnings now reportedly go to Ortega, and when Mayorga fought in Chicago in August 2005, he dedicated the fight to Daniel, wore the FSLN colors, and flashed the number of the FSLN slot on the Nicaraguan electoral ballot ("casilla") to the international media."

Mayorga, in other words, in return for his freedom, was allegedly to function as both a source of funding and as a political puppet who spreads propaganda for Ortega's leftist regime.

Interestingly, especially in light of the WikiLeaks revelations, after the Supreme Court in Nicaragua had initially cleared Mayorga in the Managua rape case, a lower court found "irregularities" in the trial and in 2005 ordered a retrial, only to be blocked by the Supreme Court, which quashed the lower court's ruling, again effectively clearing Mayorga.

Mayorga, 37, who recently scored a TKO victory over Michael Walker in Miami after more than 2 years away from the ring, declared the WikiLeaks cable where he is concerned to be "absolutely not true."

Mayorga is next slated to fight Miguel Angel Cotto for the WBA "Super World light middleweight title" on March 12 in Las Vegas.
