I probably made this thread before, but who would you pick? McGirt or Mayweather? I think Floyd wins.
Agree with Jake, Floyd probably wins it going away at 140... 147 it's a good, competetive fight, with Floyd having the edge a bit
No, Floyd would have the edge by more than a "bit". I think he beats the crap outta Buddy at either weight. McGirt couldnt deal with handspeed. After Floyd beats his ass, Buddy as usual would blame it on his shoulder.
Nonsense Floyd at 147 is a guy who fights at a moderate pace and throws one or two shots at a time, tops... McGirt was fine in a chess match... It was speed combined with great activity that gave him trouble... He's good enough to give a good account of himself against Pete, he's good enough to do it against Floyd... you'd pick Ortiz to beat McGirt
Pea showed the REAL differance between class in the rematch when he thrashed McGirt. I didnt say Buddy wouldnt give account of himself. Competitive is stretching it though, I think. How in the world is a chessmatch gonna favor McGirt? He damn sure aint out-thinking Floyd, nor is he beating him to the punch. Floyd would remain in control the whole fight, and after about 5-6 rounds, it'd be become VERY one sided. As for me picking Ortiz to beat him? GTFOH! McGirt would beat the hell outta that surfing poser. He'd beat the hell outta Berto's bum ass too.
Pete was always the shit in rematches, but there is a reaosn there was a rematch and that is because Buddy gave Sweet Pea the best fight of his career to that point... I think he'd give Floyd a lot fo the same trouble... Maybe, in a rematch, your scenario happens... but the first time around, it's a 8-4, 7-5 type of fight, just like it was with Whitaker
Just like Sly, you sometimes tend to have an agenda (though you're not nearly as bad). Floyd would beat McGirt MORE clearly than Pea did. The differance would be the handspeed. Floyd has quicker hands than Pea, and more POWER (dont underestimate that). Floyd would limit McGirt's output, and McGirt stepping up his activity level would only cause Floyd to open up more. Which would mean more clean shots landing to the giant dome of McGirt. Floyd is really at his best when he stands his ground, and fights in the pocket. Against McGirt he would certainly do that, considering McGirt wouldnt have the firepower to hurt him, and also wouldnt have a size edge.
Floyd's handspeed, especially at these higher weights, is really overrated, I don't see how his hands are any quicker than Whitaker's... there is no agenda, I just think it's silly to suggest that Floyd beats the shit out of him at welterweight, who the fuck has he beaten the shit out of at Welterweight? Ortiz? Ricky Hatton? shit is ridiculous... McGirt is the best welterweight by a mile he would have ever fought, he's actually skillful and wants to win, he can actually box, unlike those guys and he's not some fat midget like Marquez or a faded elderly man like Mosley
I'd say they're marginally quicker at 147, but not by much. cdogg is right in that the 147 Floyd's speed is overrated. People still seem to be picturing him as the speed demon he was at 130. He's a lot slower at 147. Floyd thinks and reacts EXTREMELY fast, probably quicker than anyone else in boxing, but as far as raw physical speed, Floyd isn't tremendously quick at 147. I think the fact that he thinks and reacts fast gives the illusion that his hand/footspeed is quicker than it is.
