They were sucking Khan's dick constantly. The ref warned Khan about a dozen times and the announcing crew kept on insisting he didn't warn Khan at all. Khan was blatantly wrapping his gloves around Petersen's head the entire fight, and either holding him down or pushing him off. Then when somebody mentioned that he was warned they started blathering on about a "hard warning".

At one point Harold Lederman chimed in that Khan was making Petersen look foolish.

Neither knockdown in the first round was an actual knockdown. No mention from the announcers about that, even after the slow motion replay which shows the second knockdown was another push from Khan. Just kept on saying that Khan was robbed of a knockdown.

I thought the ref did alright, actually. :dunno:

Generally Larry doesn't like flashy style over substances kind of fighters so it kind of surprises me he'd be on Khan's side.

Yeah, Khan's clinching was pretty blatant. I thought he deserved a point deduction but thought the one in the final round was bad timing.

Peterson won this fight. Period. He landed the cleaner shots, and controlled the pace of the fight. Khan DID badly buzz Peterson at one point. But other than that, I didnt see Amir doing much besides throwing bullshit flurries, running and clinching.

Tonight showed that Khan really has NO technical skills. I mean, nobody ever accused of him being Donald Curry in the skill department, but MY GOD. I thought he had more skills than THIS.

He's lucky this isnt the Tszyu era. He'd be fucking all those virgins as we speak.

I think Larry is just losing it a bit. It was mostly Lampley and especially Kellerman who were going overboard about the ref and Khan.

Fact! Khan is superbrave for fighting in D.C.. They were acting like he was going to get mugged going home on the subway.

Merchant is old. He got caught up in Lampley yelling at us about Khan's 5 punch combo's, every time he threw out a 3 punch shoeshine.

I feel embarassed. I went from underrating Khan at one point, to really OVERRATING him.

I thought he might give Floyd a spirted fight for 4 rounds, then get his ass whupped.

After tonight, looks like he might not even last 4 rounds with Floyd.

I was at the fight. Fair amount of Pakis, lots from the UK.. I didn't think Peterson was a draw at all, but he had a LOT of DC support and love. Very heavily pro-Peterson crowd. Several fights broke out amongst Pakistanis and (mostly) African-American Peterson fans.

It was a close fight imo, could've gone either way .. Khan did not impress me at all, though. Kid can't fight on the inside to save his life.. Freddie Roach is the most overrated trainer in the sport, he hasn't taught Khan ANYTHING about fighting on the inside. He still fights like an amateur.

Also, Peterson was hurt bad at one point, I think in the 8th.. but Khan was too tired to follow up. He wasted a lot of energy running like crazy, and this was against a guy who can't punch for shit.

Khan will likely win the rematch.. where he goes from there is anyone's guess. He would very likely lose to Bradley, and wouldn't be competitive with Floyd at all. Peterson is a very decent fighter, so I'm not ready to say Khan outright sucks at this point. But it's fairly obvious he's not and likely never will be at the level of the Mayweathers and Pacquiaos of the boxing world.

Forget Oscar, Ruelas would've knocked out Khan.

i thought peterson won. he brung it and khan ran and slapped way too much. at least one of the point deductions was warranted while the knockdown was bs

still think khan would present some problems early for mayweather jr. since he is not made of glass, and his speed and reach would allow him to land some shots early on. he'd get broken down gradually. i knew this before the fight, but now mayweather jr. has one less option for may. this adds to arum's leverage.

ridiculous. ruelas blew and was a fraud at lightweight. peterson's fouling brother would have beat him down.

surprised? it would be downright shocking if they made that fight with a top rank fighter. and vice versa. why even consider such matches if you are a realist?

Ruelas beat up Freddie Pendelton in a GREAT FIGHT. He certainly was not a "fraud". Anthony Peterson fuckin sucks. Ruelas would have stopped him late. At 135 he KO's Khan, as Khan wasnt shit at 135. Khan beats him at 140 though.

Miguel Angel Gonzalez on the other hand, would have beat the fuck outta Khan.

About 4 years ago when Floyd pulled the trigger faster, I honestly think he'd have put Khan away within 3-4. Yup, the Hatton fight version of Floyd would almost certainly waste Khan early.

Now, Khan might last 6-7 rounds, before Floyd KO's him.

mayweather jr. hits harder than peterson but he wouldnt pressure khan in that manner so it would go rounds and be an interesting tactical match early on. only difference is that now after last nights fight even the biased brits will have lost all hope of possible victory.

Ruelas could crack though. Not like Corrales or anything, but he hit pretty hard. Hard enough to ice Khan at 135.

I would be genuinely surprised if Khan won 1 round from Floyd.

Tactical? Only on Floyd's part.

Like Hut said, Khan is Roach's "boxbot". He's a robotic, 1 dimensional outside flurrier with fast hands. He has no tactics or skill to speak of, he just throws lots of fast, straight punches and flurries.

Floyd has problems with fast fighters, but even though Khan has fast hands, that's basically all he has. Floyd's reflexes and speed of thought would more than make up for Khan's handspeed advantage.

i never really watched khan fight at that weight, so i have no opinion on him at lightweight. he was a young, weak kid there, it seems.

Disagree. Floyd knows Khan has nothing for him. He'd come straight at Khan, and hammer him. If Peterson could pick off most of Khan's bullshit flurries, he damn sure isnt getting anything solid in on Floyd.

Floyd still pulls the trigger very fast, his reflexes haven't slowed at all, or his ability to pull the trigger. He's simply a bit slower physically since the Hatton fight, his punches aren't as fast, and he's less mobile. Well not just since the Hatton fight, more since being at 147.

I'm not sure why people thought he looked bad against Ortiz. He barely got hit with anything, and his counters were as sharp as ever.
