Foster was not a huge light heavyweight, he was a TALL light heavyweight... his shoulders were incredibly narrow

    surely, you are joking

did we just watch the same thing?

shot was thrown quick and short from the hip directly to Tiger's jaw as he was coming in

"wider than a Tito hook" :shit:

Either way, it was a beautiful punch.

Although Roy would have slipped under it with his hands behind his back. :nono:

If I might impale myself on the fence - wide in the arm, short in the set up. Zero load up on it, either with his weight, rotation or arm, it just came from the position he was in.

REED Isn't even Broaching the Topic of Ruiz's 'Title", JOE NAMATH...What REED is Focusing On is THE FACT that Ruiz was a CLEAR CUT, Top 5 Heavyweight Contender, when Roy Jones Beat Him...

Again, Foster NEVER Managed to Beat a Top 5 Heavy...

Would Ruiz have been top 5 in 1973?

Exactly. No offense intended to REED, but hir argument here is transparent and weak.

Possibly not, but I would give him a good chance against Terrell, Folley and Doug Jones, in fact I'd pick Ruiz over them

The larger point is that IT DOES NOT MATTER what either guy did at heavyweight, has fuck-all to do with it

REED would Rather Deal in FACT than Supposition, but he'll Play Along...

Would the Likes of Zora Folley, Doug Jones &/or Ernie Terrell Even BE Heavyweights in the 00's???...Were THEY Top 5 Guys in 1973???...Like it or Not, John Ruiz Accomplished MORE @ Heavyweight than ANY of them & it's NOT Ruiz's Fault that he Fought in the Era he Did...

It's a FACT that Roy Jones BEAT a LEGITIMATE Top 5 Heavyweight...It's Also a FACT that Bob Foster NEVER Did...

You Know Good & Well that Foster Gets TONS of Mileage Out of Winning the 1st Round vs. Frazier & Putting Up a Respectable Effort vs. Ali, C-Dogg...ALL of the Lightheavy Greats R Judged on their HEAVYWEIGHT Exploits in 1 Way or Another...

You agREED w/REED's Top 5-6 Lightheavy's & it's NO Coincidence that they ALL had a Measure of Success @ Heavy...Hell, Take the Joe Louis Fights AWAY from Billy Conn & he'd BARELY Register on an All Time Lightheavy List...

Meaningful accomplishments = beating boxers not winning belts, in my eyes. Otherwise Jean Pascal is a greater Light heavyweight than Ezzard Charles.

Consider that KO by reductio ad absurdum, my man

So U're Telling REED that DECISIVE LOSSES to Folley, "Dog" Jones & Terrell Should Carry More Weight than a WIN Over John Ruiz???...

TBH, I dont see that they carry any weight in a 175lb match up against a relatively small guy at the weight. Especially when the Jones & Terrel losses happened > 5 years before his championship prime. I was only really nitpicking the idea a paper title or a lack of contemporary competition makes an ordinary guy in a shit era > a good guy in a great era.

I think you're right that Jones was a better heavyweight than Foster, btw. But then i also think Toney was a better heavyweight than Jones

Ruiz over Folley!? Oh, give me a break. There isnt a thing in the world Ruiz could ever do to threaten Folley.

Do I? Tell me who I picked to win this clash between Jones and one of the ten best LHWs to ever draw breath, REED.

It IS transparent. You just keep repeating the red herring that Ruiz was top-5 and then sticking your head in the sand because you know you cannot argue for Ruiz's credibility as a fighter.

REED, I don't even consider Foster's heavyweight fights when considering him as a Light Heavyweight, it's two totally different things

Same with Jones, the fact that he succeeded in winning against a heavyweight means nothing to a fight where he and his opponent weigh 175 pounds

Evander Holyfield is easily a top 10-15 Heavyweight all time, he also fought at 190 pounds... Dwight Qawi isn't a top 250 heavyweight, at 190 the two of them fought a nap and tuck classic... The two things have nothing to do with each other

There's a million such examples... Does Alexis Arguello steamroll Eusebio Pedroza at 126 because he was also a formidable Junior Welterweight? It's irrelevant, meaningless... you can use it as a boost to a guy's pound for pound ranking all-time, but as far as "who wins at this weight?" it has no bearing whatsoever... Roy isn't fighting John Ruiz, he doesn't weigh 200, he's fighting Bob Foster and he weighs 175

To punctuate that (/repeat myself) - James Toney > Roy Jones at heavyweight, IMO. Meant fuck all at super middleweight.

At his best, Jones' chin never let him down. I see Jones winning a decision, but Foster will get his shots in and perhaps may score a knockdown. 8-4 (maybe 7-5) in favor of Jones.
