Very interesting fight if you ask me - a genius fighter against an exceptional point-catching time-keeper.

Khan's speed and length WOULD be problematic for Marquez early. Only because Marquez's speed and timing arent close to what they once were. Still, Marquez is so intelligent, and Khan is so DUMB, and so defensively terrible, that I cant help but think Marquez lights him up eventually.

Khan would have a chance though, only because Marquez is so old.

If the Marquez of about 4-5 years ago moved up to 140 and fought Khan, it'd be a mismatch.

Marquez might just be too methodical to beat the Con Man.

I could see Khan flurrying and sprinting his way to a UD

    khan by decision

JMM is not very good at this weight, I think Khan can shoeshine a decision here

So I think this thread helps confirm one thing: though khan's style is amateurish and wholly unappealing on the world stage, it can be effective against certain styles, even those otherwise exceptional fighters? Or is it simply that Jmm is a lightweight at most?

    the latter, believe me

P4P (I hate that) JMM all day

If they were closer in size and relative primes agewise, Marquez would pick that fool apart

khan would always do better against guys like marquez and mayweather jr than against pressure fighters.

"better" and "emerge victorious" are radically different things

Neil, I know you still think Khan/Mayweather is a good match, but it really isn't

It's a track star who really does not know how to fight against a guy who is one of the few dozen best to ever do it

  12. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

i dont think its a good match. i think khan could still trouble him early. i dont care to see it anymore

He'll take that boy to school

If no Floyd/Pac, then what about Floyd/Bradley? Tim's a big underdog there but it's probably the next most interesting match

bradley has sparred with mayweather jr in the past. he knows what he'd be up against. he went to top rank for a reason, that fight wont happen. if not pacquiao then alvarez seems the likely foe.

which could give us Pacquiao/Bradley, which is decent to me...

I agree that Khan's high-speed, amphetomenic style of double-upped straight punches from both sides catches his opponents off-guard, and that against a fighter unwilling to come forward, and especially those with a tendency to retreat, is going to win more rounds than not.

But there's not a top fighter out there with even a remotely intelligent game-plan who isn't going to be onto Khan's game at this point.

Basically, the news on Khan is, don't back up - go forward.

I've always thought this was a comfortable UD for Khan, saturday night changes nothing

^ I agree. Khan may have some troubling moments here and there, but I seem him winning 8-4 at worst.

Its purely a styles thing. Marquez is not comfortable going forward and against Khan he'd have to.

Now Pacquiao on the other hand gives Khan a terrible beating.

@140, i'd go with khan, but with no real certainty.

@147, JMM would be favored. for sure.

Unless Khans speed drops dramatically 7 pounds up, I don't really see how Marquez would have a better shot? :dunno:

Let's not forget that JMM has excellent ring generalship and Khan, does not. Khan obviously has the speed and fast hands here, but he doesn't use the ring that well and let's also not forget he had this advantage vs Peterson. I know Peterson and JMM are not stylistically the same fighter, but JMM can definitely find a way to limit Khan's speed.

Have to say I'm shocked at the consensus here. Not saying I disagree, but damn.

But why would fighting a weight higher benefit Marquez when Khan is clearly the bigger guy? Clearly Khan would be more comfortable the higher it takes place.

Well, Sir, we've seen Marquez at welterweight and he's pretty damn good and we've yet to see Khan at the weight. Stylistically, Khan very well could win comfortably, but at either 140/147, I wouldn't count out Marquez' chances.

Pacquiao is a small welterweight and more Marquez's size anyway, Floyd is a more natural welter and Marquez looked outsized (and obviously outskilled). Despite the clear disparity in talent between Khan and those guys, the higher it goes the more it favours Khan. By fightnight he weighs in at light middleweight or above where as JMMs weight would most likely be around the same. Obviously Marquez is a much better fighter but it's a matter of styles and size here.
